Interference between ethernet and speaker wires

We're looking to install a noise cancellation system at work and it would require large amount of speaker wire to criss-cross the CAT6 data cable we have in the ceiling. Any thoughts as to interference concerns between the two? Any suggestions on Web resources with more info? Thx!

Options for 12" notebook w/ built-in DVD drive

Try not to get too caught up in the Jumbo Frame propoganda. To use Jumbo Frames every device on the network has to support them and the improvement isn't worth the time invested in configuration/compliance.

DNS for windows xp?

Not necessary. Edit the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts and put a line at the bottom that looks like this: 127.0.0.1 domainname.com

Using 2 routers for stronger home network security?

The poorman's DMZ. I like it. Atheus is is right about the subnet on the LAN side of the 7004BR needing to be different than the WAN side. If they're the same then the 7004BR won't pass traffic to 192.168.123.X out over the WAN port since that's what it knows the internal network to be. Have fun!

I agree that it sounds like it may be a power issue that's causing most of your headaches. If you do want to give something a little higher-end a chance, take a look at the SonicWALL TZ 150.

You can't go wrong with 3com switches. Their 16-port OfficeConnect Gigabit Switch is $172.99 after rebate at CDW. The lowest price on pricregrabber is over $220. You mentioned IP phones - not the type that require Power over Ethernet, right? If you need PoE you'll need a whole different class...

problem connecting to Remote Desktop

Some DSL 'modems' have built in firewalls that they don't advertise. Even if you have your firewall/router configured properly, the modem may be holding up the show. Due to a lack of documentation I once had to call an ISP to figure this out. Have you been able to make any internal services...

You're right on the money. A good VPN will let you do everything remotely that you could do while directly connected to the network via Ethernet. Except much, much slower. I haven't used that D-Link product but I've had bad experiences with D-Link in the past. I used the Linksys BEFVP41 two...
