Thanks for all of the feedback. The $400-$500 does include tax & shipping. I was thinking an 8800gs would be sufficient for 1024x768 res gaming, you think I'll actually notice any difference between that and an 8800gt at that resolution? The PSU is actually +18A on both of the 12v...

BSODs galore...

Aye, figured I'd toasted the mobo or the hdd. Although it ran fine for weeks after the botched cleaning endeavor, which puzzled me.

Strange crashing error...

I wish, parasite. Although I did underclock my card, and have since then not encountered the problem [which was happening constantly before]. Not a perfect fix, but so far so good.

Underclock on 6800GT

I changed both 2D & 3D, actually. My instability problem was happening during general Windows desktop use [web surfing, music management, etc].

Underclock on 6800GT

Doing some testing to try to find what's been causing instability in my system [see my thread], so I did a modest underclock on my 6800GT. Dropped it down to 335 Core / 800 Memory. Before I did this, the card was idling at about 45C CPU / 35C Ambient, now it's idling at 66C CPU / 47C Ambient...

Strange crashing error...

Welp, changed the error reporting in bios to speech, and now I get "System Failed VGA test" message when this "crash" occurs. Any ideas? Desperate for help here.

Strange crashing error...

Ok, have ruled out power coming on/off in house, and it's not any kind of power surge. It's not "backup mode" on the PSU and it's not any power saver settings [I have them all turned off]. I thought it might be a bad DVI converter [the thing I need to plug my old analog monitor into one of the...

Strange crashing error...

Kept AIM running while the PC did this strange lockup... I was able to hop on another PC and see my AIM still logged on for 30 minutes after the lockup... so it's not a complete lockup. Just video and sound. Any more ideas?

Strange crashing error...

Been having this problem for about a month now. Out of nowhere, the screen will go blank, my monitor power light begins to blink as if the computer had been turned off, then the sound locks up. Only way to get out of this is to do a hard power-down of the PC, then start back up. Seemingly...

Best Keyboard/mouse combo for up to 70 bucks

Logitech MX518 and a Logitech "Deluxe" keyboard. Should run you about $60. Personally, I find spending more than $20 on a keyboard to be a waste... better spent on a quality mouse. And don't get me started on $50 mousepads, bah!

which pci slot should my audigy go on

Hrm I just put mine in the slot farthest from the videocard to promote cooling and airflow. Seems to run fine there. Shrug.
