I'm surprised that with all the hype around Windows XP, it won't allow me to play DVDs out of the box.
I have a Geforce 3 Ti-500 and would like to play DVDs on my pc. Any recommendations?
I had the same problem initially but after taking a minimalist approach (video card and 1 stick of RAM) and adding components in one at a time, I was able to get it to post. The problem came back for a short time but after I flashed the latest BIOS it has been rock solid.
I've heard enough...
Has anyone found where in the BIOS you can change the actual PCI and AGP ratios on the Shuttle AK31a? Does the BIOS do this automatically for you based on how you set the FSB?
The Shuttle is much cheaper than either of these boards and actually runs slightly faster with the same stability and overclockability. If you don't need USB 2.0 or Raid, get the Shuttle.
I noticed the same thing. Hopefully with the 275mhz clock the Radeon 8500 will be able to compete better at higher resolutions/32 bit color.
Still, have to admit I'm impressed with the 8500 even now...what an improvement since Anand's review :)
I heard the Titaniums were coming out next week, but look at this quote from the Register.
"We say "announced" because there's no official pricing details yet or shipping product - the first add-in cards featuring Titanium chips are expected to reach the stores 45 days or so, after October 12...
What's 2 weeks compared to the benefit you will get from waiting? Personal decision, but in my case I definitely plan to hold out for the KT266a, Ti-500 and 1.53 palomino :)
Here's the quote from OCWorkbench:
<< If you are thinking of getting a KT266A board, you might want to hold on for a while. I received some unconfirmed news that there will be some manufacturers selling it below USD100 mark. I definitely hope this is true. >>
Pretty barebones review, but looks like we can expect around a 10% increase in KT266a boards over the KT266:

Here's another review of the MSI KT266a board. It is Chinese, but you can still see the benchmarks:
MSI KT266a
I have to say I'm disappointed in the MSI KT266a's performance. Anand's preview implied a larger performance margin, but it is almost identical to KT266 at higher resolutions.
Thanks for the link, good to see the KT266a boards are finally coming out. Too bad the review didn't have more than the memory comparison to KT266 boards.
