OTA HD cards.

I have the HVR-1600 and it works with MC in vista. It does not, however, work with the bundled TV tuning software in vista...

4x dvd burns only at 2.4x!

Not sure if you mentioned (you weren't clear) but what speed is the media your trying to burn onto? Your blank discs have speeds you need to look at.

need a good tv tuner software

DScaler is a decent free program. I had the same card and was happy with the quality that DScaler gave over the bundled software. It supports EPG, but I was never able to get it to work...

Load balancer, or QoS for internet traffic only?

Load balancing is for more than one internet connection and comes at a high premium. QoS will only help if you have certain connections that need priority over other types of connections. For example, if you have a VOIP solution, that would take priority over web browsing. Caching servers...

Been doing a bit more reading. Another important thing to take into consideration is the controller. It seems like controllers based on the PCI interface (either on board or in a card) are not seeing good results. The more modern chipsets with built in RAID seem to do a whole lot better...

OK, that makes sense, thanks for the technical explanation. As a note, it's a pretty clean install of Vista, only a few days old. There isn't really tons of stuff loading up. To confirm: From what I've seen, the more drives you add to a RAID, the longer your seek time gets. That means...

I just checked it out. I'm not sure if that's totally relevant because they are testing single drives and not RAIDed drives.

My main complaint is that windows takes too long to start and games take too long to load. I'm guessing that the slowness here is reading from the hard drive and putting stuff into memory. I would think that the average read speed would be the important number here. Am I wrong?

According to This Tom's article, the average read performance on the Raptor 74gb is 75.3MB/s. The average read performance on the Cavier SE 160gb is 64MB/s. In a 2x Raptor RAID0, that would be 150.6MB/s minus overhead. On a 4x Cavier that would be 256MB/s minus overhead. According to that...

Stereo & Mic Wiring on Un-Terminated Headset

I'm not an expert on this, but I believe this is what you want: Tip -> Left Channel (red +) Ring -> Right Channel (white +) Sleeve -> Ground (blue and black -) For the Mic, you want a stereo jack with: Tip -> Input (yellow +) Ring -> Nothing Sleeve -> Ground (green -)

HD is widescreen, the monitors you're looking at aren't. 1080i and 1080p run at 1920x1080.
