I had to immediate upgrade to the 3-way crossover (CX3400) to integrate a subwoofer properly. Oh man, that 15" HSU VTF-3 MK5 HP shakes my house, lol.

Exactly, I agree. The point is that games can just do tone mapping from the get go, there's nothing special that is needed from either vendor to achieve said effect. This is just marketing.

Is Geforce 680 2GB for $100 CAD a good deal?

iirc 680 is about 5% faster than a 960. I sold mine for USD$80 couple months ago, which I guess is about CAD$100. Remember the card only has 2GB probably. It should be vastly superior to typical on-chip gpu.

The previous driver seems good too. I guess they fixed whatever was ailing their driver for a while. I skipped several versions until recently (for DOOM).

I'm one that is willing to reduce gfx settings to satisfy my 144 Hz screen (well 90+ is nice, I can't really tell 120 vs 144). Gonna sit tight with my Titan X and gsync 2560x1440. Maybe post-Pascal will bring a compelling upgrade in 2018, plus an oled 4K screen or something, heh.

Anybody else unimpressed with new midrange Nvidia GPUs, and much higher MSRP?

I'm sticking to cards that are less than $400 from now on, so I guess that means 1070 for me. They now have 3 cards $599 and up (1080, future 1080Ti, future Titan).

This is precisely what happened with Titan X last time. nVidia was the sole supplier initially. Now they want $100 + initial orders is my wag. They like $$$.
