I too have very rarely had this grey screen problem, but strangely enough only in Media Player Classic in DXVA, switching between fullscreen and windowed mode.
Well, Lucid with the Hydra, are trying a totally different solution to the problem so they're not really beating ATI and nVidia's engineers at they're own game, they're changing the rules.
Also I for one am holding thumbs for the Hydra as this could truly be something that all PC gamers could...
In SA its not a pretty picture, GTX 260 216 is around 350US - from the suppliers.
Budget is around that mark for gfx, with the system having to last at 1680x1050 max details without AA for 2 around years.
I think when the GTX275 finally hits in SA it can only be more expensive than what...
Sorry to ask something that might already be common knowledge and even off topic, but what is beyond the GTX275 ?
Meaning, when will the next all-new high-end nVidia architecture launch ?
I'm asking because I'm thinking of getting a 260 216 within the month - for a friend's cheap nehalem...
Unfortunately the plate still had to be cut, there were just too many points of interference with the HR-03.
The only way would be to bend the heatpipes and modify the HR-03 in some way by either cutting away or filing the mounting brackets, something I'm not prepared to do :)
The newer...
If I could venture a guess, if you say that you tested the memory in memtest exhaustively - forget about the memory being the cuplrit here.
There must be something else causing the problem!
Here are some pictures of my fairly crude, but functional mod.

Well, on my Sapphire 4870, even with ramsinks supplied by Thermalright and a 120mm fan directly blowing onto them FurMark still resetted the system when the VRMs got up to 150C
With the stock cooler, the VRMs barely break 100C in FurMark.
I can of course, only speak for myself.
Easy solution that error8 already mentioned is to use part of the stock cooler when using an aftermarket cooler.
I also chopped off the fan-section of the stock cooler and have it mounted along with a HR-03 GT on my 4870.
I noticed that you dont really need to up the fan speed to cool the...
Look lets be realistic - there will be some applications that are incompatible with Vista, that run perfectly well in XP.
Naturally if you run XP you will miss out on some great DX10 graphical enhancements/performance increases/gameplay improvements that only Vista can produce.
If you want...
At the risk of straying a little off topic, the 8.10 FarCry 2 Hot Fix drivers (on Vista x64) absolutely destroyed the stability of my system while they were on. (4870 512MB user)
I got insane rendering artifacts in Crysis, UT3 and also in the ubiquitous ATI Tray Tools at overclocked and...
Yeah GPUs absolutely draw more power running 3D apps, caused by switching to higher frequencies as well as being loaded.
Its almost like the difference in power draw when a CPU is idle and under load, except larger in most cases!
Pepper, do u ever get weird characters/colors over the screen...
Im still running a MSI NX6800GT AGP, and I also experienced 'graphical anomalies' or artifacts.
It started happening after about a year's use of the totally new system I was running it in.
I finally resolved the issue by going with a more powerful 12V rail PSU, replacing the one I had - a...
Yeah thats why I said my post came a bit late, I still dont think you can say 30fps in a 3dmark bench and 30 fps in any game translates into the same level of smoothness. For me 30 fps is in any case usually not nearly enough to give me that smooth feeling, but I have been playing fps since well...
