If you run your 100MHz FSB Tbird in a KT133A @133Mhz FSb it would run 9x133=1200MHz... if you can get it to run this fast then yes you can run it without unlocking it... the chances however seems small I'm afraid
could it be you didn't install SP1? w/o it Win2K & Via KX/KT133 should be a pretty unstable combo from what I've heard. With that said I've recently run Win2K w/o SP1 on a KT133A with no stability problems what-so-ever.
Furthermore I run Win2K on my main box, Athlon 650 on AMD751 wich has...
<< Pretty smart azzed reply without a grain of proof. So your saying every chip from Dresdin is copper? Well that is definatly not a fact! We know this because AMD did a press release concerning the testing of copper interconects at Dresdin after the factory had been producing chips. So no not...
actually AFAIK they recycle the chips that fails in some way. Not really sure how though, I'm not as familiar with the details of cpu production as I'd like to be :P
I say go Tbird. That way you get to keep your existing cpu+mobo config to use for a server or something or sell.
Infineon RAM should work in socketA mobos.
Make sure your PSU is up for the job.. (if it's 300W you should be fine, if you wanna be 100% sure take a look at AMDs recommended PSU list)
Whether the die polish color scheme got messed up or they actually make Alu Tbirds 1200 I don't know. However Jerry Sanders did state at the Q400 earnings conference call that by Q101 all Tbirds would be produced at Fab 30. I'm personally more inclined to believe Fab 30 has been using green die...
Remeber to install SP1 for Win2K .. also get the AGP reg. patch for Win2K. (and ofcourse as previously mentioned the Via 4-in-1) Then you should be fine.
Also don'e expect Win2K to boot up after you change the hardware. I have yet to find a way to succesfully switch boards without reinstalling...
Sounds good to me. Especially with your cpu is running at only 26C .. that's nice and cool. It doesn't seem being pushed to the limit at all... I'm guessing you are running it on default Vcore?
I'd stick with what you got if I were you, and then go socketA Tbird 1GHz+ later.
The reason you can't overclock is (most likely) that your L2 SRAM chips won't play along because they are on a 1/2 divider. You wil need to lower the L2 multiplier on some way. If you can get into windows @800 you...
POST LEDS are a cluster of leds on the motherboard that using code combinations tell you what phase of the POST the system is preforming. This is very useful to dertermain problems with the setup that may cause the POST to fail. AFAIK MSI and Epox are the only ones who have this feature. (I'm...
