RAID - Worth it?

I know of a few with PATA (or IDE) RAID. evga, jetway, and asus SLI mobos all support PATA and SATA RAID even tho the evga and jetway doesn't document it. I use the evga sli mobo myself and love it! I use the SATA RAID since it has a larger bandwidth.

I have to say that I like my RAID 0 with 2x80G Hitachi's. It's way faster than a single disk by itself. It's almost as fast as a single 74G Raptor at $50 cheaper with twice the space. If you're concerned about disk failure, just make sure you have a good backup process, which I highly...

I think I know what you mean about the 4pin. you opened up one of the 4pin female connector a tiny bit to use it as the "remover tool" to remove the pins from the shell? If that's not what you meant, then yes I am confused. :)

The fan controller Zalman ZM-MFC1 that I have doesn't give rpm readings.. just controls the voltage to the fans. I have the evga sli mobo and fortunately it doesn't require the CPU HSF to be connected to boot. I've got the XP 120 heatsink on it without a fan right now. But that'll change...

Thanks for the info guys. Galvanized, I don't know of any 3 pin fans that don't have monitoring, unless it's really a 2pin fan (with red and black only) on a 3pin connector. But I don't know everything so maybe there are. To clarify, the fans I have are set up with a male and female 4pin...

Anyone know how to assemble a 3-pin connector for fans? I just got a fan controller with 3-pin connectors but most of my fans have 4-pins for power with a 3-pin used only for RPM monitoring. I'd like to set up the 3-pin for power and monitoring. Thanks.

IMHO.. if you want a gaming pc, you should get a cheap mobo with the basics and spend the most on CPU, and graphics card. Memory is memory (relatively). Just get PC3200 speeds. You don't need expensive ram with great timings. It's not that much of a difference. You're better off getting a...

Yeah, I have it and love it. You can buy it at the site. The company's in Singapore. I just checked.. they're out of stock! When I bought it, it was about $70 in Singapore dollars with an additional $45 for shipping. Converted into US dollar it's really about $50. It took about 4 days...
