pimp my overclock

I just started OCing my opty 144 cab2e 0545 mpmw (not sure about the last 4 letters) but I'm having some trouble. My system is prime stable at 265 x 9, but won't post with a fsb of 270 or greater. I've tried lowering the multi to 4x, increasing voltages (core, chipset, ram) and running a ram...

Overclocked my CPU, 3DMark05 scores dropped?

Overclocking the cpu would have a minimal benefit on 3dmark scores, but I'm pretty sure RAM read/write speed could affect them a lot. When you OCed the cpu, did you run a ram divider or loosen the timings? If so, i think the slower ram is the reason. But I'm not that experienced, thats just my...

Temps too LOW

It's a DFI ultra-d. I'm gonna check for a bios update now, maybe that will work. I'm using a si-120 to cool it, but i don't think it should be registering ambient temps on the cpu.

Temps too LOW

I just got a new opteron 144 and the temps reported by the bios and everest seem way too low. They report at 25C idle and about 30 load. The ambient temp is 25C. I don't think there's any way the cpu has temps that low, so i'm assuming the diode is messed up. Is there any way to fix it or...

Scythe ninja or si-120?

The SI-120s don't need that much air (from what I've read, not from experience). Any 120mm with ~50-60 CFM should be able to do it. Thermalright recommends the Panaflo ultra quiet which runs at 68.9 CFM and 30 dB so that can't be bad. I'm sure you can search around and find some good fans. The...

Thanks for the quick reply. The audigy is a bit expensive for a PC without much need for high quality sound, but i think i might get it for my new one.

My comp was recently hit by a lightning strike (it even went through the surge protector) and i think it fried the integrated sound card on my mobo because i can't get any sound at all now. I don't want to buy a new mobo just for another sound card, so i was wondering if adding another sound...

Scythe ninja or si-120?

I ended up getting the SI-120 because of the reasons Galvanized posted. The difference in temps between the Thermalright and the Scythe were negligible. Thanks for the link to sidewinder. Those Akasa are really amazing, i dunno why i've never seen them anywhere else. Just ordered 3 of them.

I have $100

Since the VGA cooler shouldn't cost you too much, you can also swap out the stock HSF with a Scythe Ninja and run it with a really slow 120mm fan. That will give you a cooler cpu and a quieter HSF.

Is this my HDD failing?

Antec is still a good brand, but is having some quality control issues from what i hear. people seem to be getting a lot of Antecs with bad caps, which could fry your motherboard/cpu/vga and cost you a lot of money. I wouldn't take that chance. The best brands for value seem to be Enermax...

Does anyone know if the air running through the case is enough to cool the MOSFETS and other components taxed by OCing? I'm tending towards the Si-120 right now but it's still pretty much in the air. Also, do you think two case fans running at 32 CFM would be enough case ventilation? These...

Power Supply Recommendations

PC Power and Cooling is the absolute best but is also the most expensive. Other good brands are OCZ, Seasonic, Fortron, and i think Enermax. Just make sure not to get something that gives tons of wattage for little money (raidmax, rosewill, other crappy brands.)

I was under the impression that CAB2E OCed better, since i've heard a lot more about them than the CACJEs. I know neither are as good as the CABNE and CABYE but i think they'll both OC better than Venices. There isn't much info on either (CAB2E, CACJE) so i think i'll just cross my fingers...

I just placed an order for an opteron 144 CAB2E 0545 from TankGuys because I didn't want to shell out the cash for a 165 and was afraid the new 146s would have a poor stepping. All of the major retailers are selling optys at really HIGH prices. I'll tell you how it goes once i get my system...
