Discussion Do people just ignore ATOT, and only post on other tech related categories?

I have noticed a lot of people who still post on the forums in the tech section, but no longer post in ATOT. I really wonder what happened? What I really noticed was that this started around 2020. However, even more people started to ignore ATOT after @shortylickens, @UsandThem, and @Platypus, stopped posting in ATOT. Where they the ones that made ATOT alive, or is ATOT dying much faster than the rest of the forum? Or is it something else on ATOT that is just driving people away? I can understand why many users want to avoid P&N, but what is it about ATOT that people want to stay away from it? What happened to those users by the way?

I understand that option, but still does not answer two questions? Why not post in ATOT when you already are on the forums? Also, what happened to those three users that I mentioned?

I didn't post here til 2009 cause I thought it was a bunch of nonsense. I wasn't wrong, but it's kinda fun, and I don't give too many fucks about tech anymore. The users you mentioned probably just didn't feel like doing it anymore. Tastes and priorities change over time.

Platypus caught a ban for some stupid shit, and I don't expect he's likely to return (he wasn't a regular visitor by that point anyway).
ATOT in general is probably only going to appeal to a smaller subsection of posters, it's sort of a self-reinforcing cycle because with fewer regular posters, there's less of a range of topics, thus less people are likely to engage.
And, I mean, it is kind of a den of inanity and assholery, so one has to have a certain tolerance level for that. Also FUCK YOU FOR ASKING!*

*Not really. But maybe! Am I serious? Who's to say? Who knows what evil lurks in the heart of frog?

I kinda feel like ATPN is sort of becoming the defacto social forum here.

Just so much batshit stuff happening in politics right now that it sort of takes the wind out of everything else.

We also have our resident AstroTurf crew working ATPN pretty hard and sort of getting that batshit energy out of everyone there instead of ATOT.

Seems like many/most/some of the tech section posters are one-shot-and run question types. That's part of the high-ish number of members and traffic, though they don't remain active members.

OP, why do you do this thing where you pick some random group of members and decide that the forum totally revolves around them? I recall your "poster of the year" self-made awards which was strange, primarily for your reasoning.

I know Platypus and he's a good guy--he got sick of the forums and left, basically (He caught the semi-ban but was like, fuck it); but he hadn't really posted much at all before that, for like years. Why would his 0.3 ppy average influence the traffic in these forums? What a strange notion.

I don't think I hardly ever ventured on to ATOT until about 2016. My wife had cancer and I had more time on my hand. My social forum shutdown for good in 2014. I needed a social outlet. I used to come here only for tech advice or to give to others. Back when Anand ran things. I miss that guy.
