When the GAP between wages and GDP was non existent. Before the inflation / economic turmoil of the late 70s.
You could "pump gas and support a family", words from the very Boomers who voted to ruin it and then blamed everyone else.
You do realize the average American in the 70’s was way poorer than they are today, right?

Are you fucking joking? Your source is “liberals in here”? Who the fuck cares what anyone says here when it comes to affecting politics nationally or even at the state and local levels? Has Biden done what you are complaining about?

News bulletin - we are actually liberals in here discussing shit. Therefore what liberals say in here is actually and literally a part of what we can and should discuss here. I mean holy fuck.

Did you slip up and have some bourbon tonight? You know that brown liquor really fucks with your sense of reality right? The doctor said, but you don't listen. Tsk tsk.

Oh @fskimospy is a really out of touch latte/limousine liberal. I find that their elitist takes are the actual elitist liberal takes that should be criticized vs the whole blanket elitist liberal criticism that is often thrown about very cavalierly about any liberal opinion. Limousine liberals like him, they are a net drain to our cause. So out of touch and such a turn off for people with actual problems.
Yeah, let's bring back the economy from 2000-2014. Those were the days!

We don't live a fucking Utopia, there will always be problems. But sub 4% unemployment and rapidly raising blue collar wages is pretty good news.

Your whole line of questioning proves my point, it's similar to your posting style, nothing new. You are trying to make points with questions, not actually trying to have a discussion. Maybe you don't realize it, you may have the self-awareness of a MAGAT, which I have seen on the Dem side.

The fact you have no self-awareness is bigly sad. It's great you vote Dem, but the lack of any self-awareness still sucks.

Also I was never a Bernie bro but whatever makes your wacky world work for you.

Like I said you are too fucking stupid. Keep arguing against a straw man it’s working really well for you.

Uh, yes, you should go out and get your bag if your employer is screwing you over and not keeping your wage up with inflation. And with unemployment at near record lows, it's easier than ever to do that.

If real wages are higher, that should more than compensate for increased costs. I don't think the ferry is going to go back to costing a nickel any more.
I work for an ivy league uni, and I get paid well. I'm in a two-person, childless household with a mostly-one person income, and I'm still feeling a crunch. I can't imagine what it feels like to be a household of two 40-50k earners with a kid or something.

lol no I am not. Housing prices are only one component of the economy.

You said the economy is bad. So tell me when it was good. Very simple.
LOL you are. Nobody thinks housing is a bigger issue than you.... then housing doesn't factor into prosperity.

The core of my economic belief is that the multi-decade growing GAP between wages and GDP has gutted and destroyed the middle class.
Sourced from Inequality For All, Robert Reich, etc.

Granted, the data is 10 years old at this point. I am not sure how it has changed since the Obama era. But given the skyrocketing cost of living, probably not well.
Still, are you refuting the very premise of "Inequality For all"?

I'm not surprised you would feel more of a crunch than others. Academia tends to pay pretty lousily to start - it's a big reason I left my post doc many years ago to seek a different career. Plus, college metro areas are in the top 3 locations for NIMBYs blocking housing.

Incumbents usually run on the strength of the economy. Biden hasn't really started running yet since he doesn't have any primary challenge.

I’m trying really hard to give you the benefit of the doubt but you are saying some pretty stupid Shit. Biden just gave the state of the Union speech, if that ain’t the mother of all campaign story/promises then I don’t know what would be a better then that.

Did you even watch the speech?

I did not say housing does not factor into prosperity.

I asked you a very simple question. If the economy is bad now then when was it good? Why can’t you answer something so simple? (We both know why)

Who said you have to think we live in a Utopia to be able to recognize that capitalism has run amuck, that economic benefits have not kept up to the costs of living OR EVEN CLOSe, and it's ok to recognize that when you are running for office. I think Biden gets it actually, and in fact I think quite a few Dem pols get it - but I think @fskimospy and @ivwshane are fucking morons. I know at least one is a limousine liberal cozied up in what is probably their renovated brownstone in like Park Slope. Not sure what the other's excuses are. Either way, they are dipshits. This is the subject at hand. The dipshittery of these fucking out of touch mofos.

So to be clear you think it would be better if we were all poorer but more equal?

You do by ignoring it when I keep saying how can people be prosperous when they can't afford housing? That's the most basic human need after food.

Cost of housing is factored into real wages, which are higher than ever.

When was the economy good? For like the sixth time. This should be very, very easy for you to answer.

Sounds like housing is at a reasonable expense right now compared to higher than ever wages here.

That means you are a fucking idiot.

Also why complain about a housing shortage if higher than ever wages are keeping pace with housing prices as you TOTALLY imply here. It's not a big problem then.

Answer: you are an out of touch wealthy prick

Been here for 5yr, been in my career for 20, when exactly is that shit supposed to pick up? Mind you I'm near the top of the income bracket for my age, I'm doing well. My point is, everything is too fucking expensive. Legit, right now, I couldn't afford another car. I couldn't afford a big bill (AC dies, roof replacement, bullshit like that). I'm not bad with money, we don't go on trips, we buy needs, very few wants, and we're still crunched, at a 6 figure income.

I'm super stoked that the lower income brackets are doing better, I really am. Not everyone is, and that's not easy to address because Congress can't dictate non-min wage incomes or lower costs of consumer goods (realistically).

I’m not a liberal so you can continue to fuck yourself until you are capable of addressing posts without resorting to straw man arguments. If you think my posts implied something then ask, don’t assume (which is exactly why I asked Steve my question).
