It is used for trench warfare, which is exactly what this is.
The Taliban extensively used trenches in Afghanistan 2001 and prior.

It was a very effective tactic they learned to use against the northern alliance.

Sure, but this explains exactly why the US doesn’t use them. We are too smart.
I think the US would use them in a second if the situation called for it. The thing is, I suspect it is more about stealth now then trench once the heavy bomber starts circling.

Kharkiv is being destroyed a little more day by day now, it's accelerating. Ukraine's 2nd largest city with almost 1.5 million residents on a good day. They'll soon be forced to flee en masse. Where are they to go? Where do you put upward of 1.5 million people? My home state of West Virginia barely has more people than that. I may as well be asking, "Where do you put the population of West Virginia?"

Where do you put the people of Vermont & Wyoming?
Where do you put the people of D.C. and Alaska?
Where do you put the people of the Dakotas?
Where do you put the people of Delaware?
Where do you put the people of Rhode Island?
Where do you put the people of Montana, or Maine, or the entire fuckin' island of goddam Hawaii?

It is presumed that Russia will be settings their sights on trying to take Kharkiv in a couple months, which is probably why they've ramped up bombing the place to soften it up after having largely ignored it for a long time.

I bring this up due to this article and also due to Chasiv Yar. Chasiv Yar, a final key city to Donbas, has been completely destroyed before a single Russian even put a boot within the city on their current offensive drive. This is Russia's style, pick a city to take over, and obliterate it leaving the defenders to fight from within the ruins. That is what is currently being done to Kharkiv, preemptively. It's a signal of priority targetting. Russia is telegraphing what is on their to-do list.

If the US engaged in this clusterfuck, they wouldn't bother with the trenches. They'd annihilate the AA from a distance, destroy everything big enough to be a supply depot, rail depot, airport, command center, or manufacturing center within 500km of the border, then after a very brief leaflet campaign encouraging everyone within 10mkm of the current zone of conflict to retreat, they'd cluster bomb the entire LOC+50km for about 24h. Whatever was leftover could be handled by boots on the ground.

No war will ever 'finish' Russia. No war ever has and many have tried.

Russia can only be changed from within and has been so many times before. The key is for the people to say enough is enough. Russia knows that and is trying to use it on western nations trying to get the people (MAGAts) and other right wing extremists to rise up against established governments.

This current phase will not end by western arms. It will only end when the Russian people want it to end enough that they, from within overthrow Silly Putty and his clones.

Some news from the fighting:

"Ukrainian military had 50 combat engagements with Russian forces near Terny of Donetsk region, Bilohorivka of Luhansk region, Vyyimka, Spirne, Bohdanivka, Klischiyivka of Donetsk region, Novokalynove, Berdychi and Netaylove of Donetsk region, Heorhiyivka, Novomykhaylivka, Staromayorske of Donetsk region and Robotyne of Zaporizhzhia region, - General Staff of Armed Forces of Ukraine says in the evening report"

"At Kherson direction Russian army shelled Nikopol of Dnipropetrovsk region, Kherson city, Zmiyivka, Krynky, Tyahynka of Kherson region, - General Staff of Armed Forces of Ukraine says in the evening report"

"At Novopavlivka direction Russian army shelled Heorhiyivka, Paraskoviyivka, Kostyantynivka, Vuhledar of Donetsk region. Russian aviation conducted airstrikes at Krasnohorivka and Urozhayne of Donetsk region, - General Staff of Armed Forces of Ukraine says in the evening report"

"At Bakhmut direction Russian army shelled Bohdanivka, Kalynivka, Chasiv Yar of Donetsk region. Russian aviation conducted airstrikes at Slovyansk, Verkhnokamyanske and Hryhorivka of Donetsk region, - General Staff of Armed Forces of Ukraine says in the evening report"
What do you believe are the current Russian strategic targets? Is it an all-out front defense testing, or are they advancing against entrenched Ukrainian positions without considering losses?
I've heard, can't remember where, that the "deepest" goal of Russia would be to take Odessa. This seems extremely westerly, and is beyond the Dniepr, so they'd have to secure a crossing over a large river, which is always difficult. Have you heard anything about Odessa or renewed attacks on Kherson?

This. Only a pisshead laughs at or dismisses American SEAD. Baghdad was the most heavily defended city in the world at that time wasn't it? And Iraq had the world's 6th largest air force. Didn't matter.

If not air power, how else do you get a military of that size and dispersion to die or surrender in that amount of time, en masse? Pretty funny to hear people try to act smart about Russia eating shit for two years, pretend America and Friends cleaning the clocks of huge armies either never happened or was riddled with failure.

It's something a lot of effort and money has been spent on ever since Vietnam to this day. Some underperformance again in Serbia led to the AARGM getting developed which remembers where the radar is even if they turn it off and has GPS/INS plus active terminal guidance.

Would pay good money to see Soviet S-300/400 systems meet the F-35A internally carried AARGM-ER with a likely range north of 200km.

Depends on what you mean by ‘finish’, and I’m not aware of any war that had that aim. (Not even the Germans in WW2 had the goal of destroying Russia as a concept)

What people want is to eliminate the ability of Russia to engage in aggression against their neighbors for the near future and that’s certainly been done before. World War 1 is a good example where extensive battlefield defeats caused the ruling regime to collapse.

Russia has created 8.2 million Ukrainian refugees with the war already, were you not aware of this? Relax. There's Lviv, Kyiv, the Western part of the country, Poland, etc. They'll deal with it like they've been dealing with it. Keep Calm, Kill Orcs, and Carry On.

Russians made a push towards Chasiv Yar the other day with a bunch of BMPs, from the East. It failed and the orcs were then mistakenly bombed by their own Su-25s. At the current rate of the Russian crawl it will take them several more months to take Chasiv Yar. If AFU gives up the town it won't be until Russia has paid another ridiculous price for it.

Kharkiv will be a tough nut to crack, will turn into another Russian grave yard, like Avdiivka only much bigger. How many brigades will Putin sacrifice? We'll see

Where is our chemical warfare program?
  • Our enemies have them.
  • Our enemies use them.
WTF are we doing?

Russian troops are carrying out “systematic” chemical weapons attacks on Ukrainian troops across the frontline - The Telegraph

Isn’t this the same outlet that said Russians were taking chips from washing machines because they were needed to repair equipment?

This same outlet also said Wagner had resorted to using shovels because they were running low on ammunition.

Oh ya, they also propped up the ‘Ghost of Kiev’, which we all know was just more Ukrainian propaganda.

If you want to see what being propagandized looks like, look no further than Jaskalas!

BTW, nice use of the bold lettering and bullet points, really helps DRIVE the point across!

Always nice to see the poster with the least amount of credibility here act like he's the arbiter of what constitutes propaganda. You Can't Make This Up™. Russian troops have been looting Ukraine since the war started, you really need to extract your head - or was this the look you were going for? I don't know what is so difficult for you to comprehend about Russia not having parts it needs for...well, almost everything. They need Western materials to make valuable things, sucks for them. Shit, they were asking students to send vape pens in to help provide parts for drones, reported by Novaya Gazeta Europe.

If only you weren't a shameless, partisan shill and pathological liar, then maybe your indignant bullshit might actually mean something. Jaskalas may be a drama queen at times, but luckily for him he doesn't share your disturbing affliction, this love of fascism and the death it brings. The support of a genocidal regime's invasion and glee over Ukrainian deaths means you are an epic asshole, not to mention a shitty human being. I can't stress that enough, I want you know.

I guess it's easier to project your issues than to address why Russia is so lousy at warfare. Pathological liars are like that; lazy. We understand, you've been doing this for awhile afterall. Hang in there clown, your handlers will reward you for your embarrassing efforts someday, maybe *giggle*

It's such a shame we have to deal with an infestation of Orange Locusts.

Video of Donald Trump Supporter Saying They'd Vote for Putin Goes Viral

"Putin wants to go back to good morality," a Trump supporter said in the viral video.

Trump's RNC Chair Includes Ukraine in List of US Adversaries

Trump's hand-picked RNC Chair, Michael Whatley, listed Ukraine with China and Iran among aggressive countries on the world front.

Ike would have run them all out of the country.
Newsweek only posts sensational articles to get clicks. It's a shitty news source.
It used to be better in the past, not so much now.

Yet more proof magats are some of the most ignorant, morally bankrupt people on the planet. If the Hitler of the 21st century represents "a good morality to you," you're the kind of American America doesn't need. Thank goodness those people are prone to stupidity that shortens their own lives, also political careers. Rational Americans finding their fascist, anti-American maga idiocy repulsive means a lot fewer of them will be creating offspring too.

What really bugs me is this is less click bait and more of an accurate reflection among Trump faithful. I had a deranged boomer look me dead in the eyes the other day and tell me he would vote for Trump on account of him being "...even keeled, not looking for a fight, like Biden is." He literally said that, I thought I misheard him and asked for a repeat. Unbelievable, I wish it was unique. This kind of brainwashing is far too common.

It is just mind-boggling how nuts these people are. How they yearn for the always golfing, saber rattling Russian asset to kill an economy while wiping his ass with the Constitution again.

It could also end in a negotiated treaty where Ukraine is left with a rump state. From my perspective, the worst possible outcome would be Western boots on the ground. That action could easily result in nuclear weapon exchanges and possibly a civilization ending nuclear holocaust.

Not while Putin is in power.

If French, Polish and/or Czech boots went to Ukraine to pitch in, it wouldn't be in combat roles, at least initially. They would take over security in key areas in the West to free up AFU assets to assist in the East. Would probably be involved with logistics and training too. They get involved in party time activities it will be as little blue men, "foreign legion volunteers."

Of course it still stands that any use of nukes on Putin's part means his own death being part of the immediate surgical response.

So does most of the planet.

Assuming that Russia has maintained it's nuclear deterrent sufficiently that they actually work when keys are turned and red buttons are pressed.

Before the 2022 Ukraine Invasion I would have considered this a given, after not so much.

They have something north of 5000 warheads. If any non-zero fraction of them work, that's all that matters.

The question is how many of those are missiles versus tactical nuclear weapons to be delivered via artillery to dropped by a aircraft? Does Russia even have enough working delivery systems to place them onto the targets that it wants around the world?

Then we have to consider how much the west should take into account Russia's nuclear blackmail to allow Russia to get it's way in Ukraine? This entire war in Ukraine is over Russia's expansion of it's borders after 2014.
