Do you know the OEM price for it?
No, but I know the price I can buy ASUS ROG Flow Z13 right now in a shop.

I honestly don't care If AMD is selling It to Asus for chump change, when I as a customer have to pay 2509 euro for this level of performance.
I can understand that I also pay Asus tax in this case, but It's not like I can chose a different cheaper vendor, because there simply is none and who knows when there will be.

P.S. Considering how many models are available with Strix Point and mostly from Asus, I am pretty skeptical about Strix Halo's wider availability.

I’m more suprised the HP laptop didn’t launch yet. Maybe April?

It's cheaper than the previous gen? yea.
It still costs 2509€ for a 32GB model.
It helps absolutely nothing that's cheaper than the previous overpriced ASUS ROG Flow Z13 gen, because It's still opverpriced.
For 350€ extra I can buy next month a Legion Pro 7 with Ultra 9 275HX + RTX 5070Ti 12GB, If I don't care that much about build quality then an MSI laptop will cost only 2349€.

This situation just confirm what I already mentioned in the past, Strix Halo laptops won't offer any advantage vs a CPU+dGPU combo, because they will be overpriced like hell thanks to scarce availability. This is a never ending problem of AMD, they don't supply enough chips to OEMs in my opinion and that's why there are so few models from different vendors.

sure as hell does.

It's literally cheaper than the last gen with equal availability?

Stock issues, I guess TSMC capacity is the biggest bottleneck in supply
I beg to differ. I can already chose from 130 Lunar Lake models in a big local online shop, while the whole Zen5 based laptops(Strix Point, Dragon Range, Strix Halo) are limited to pathetic 19 models!
AMD is just not ordering enough wafers.

sure as hell does.
It sure as hell does not help, If you can only buy a single overpriced laptop from Asus.
Where are the other cheaper laptops with Strix Halo? Nowhere.
When will they be available? No one knows.

Last gen was based i9-13900H + RTX 4070, which cost 3400 €, but that was a special ACRNM edition, you also had the standard one with i9-13900H + RTX 4060 for "only" 2400€. Link
The new Strix Halo Flow is a bit more expensive in comparison, but you gain extra 8GB RAM(16GB+8GB vs 32GB), better CPU and GPU, so worth the increased price.
The problem is at that time you could also buy much cheaper laptops, for example Legion Slim 7i 16 Gen 8 with i9-13900H + RTX 4070 cost only 1800€. Link
A much better performing laptop than ROG Flow, which actually cost 600€ less.

But with Strix Halo you have no other options, because there is nothing else except this gaming tablet available.
Will the situation change next month when you will be able to buy Blackwell laptops? Almost certainly not.

Halo is near x2 times faster than i9-13900H lol.

intel also overheats/throttles in real scenarios, especially combined with dgpu in small chassis

you cant be serious comparing overheating alder lake H to 9950X (Halo CPU) in a tablet without overheating

i mean yeah, raptor lake is puke for mobile. even for desktop loud and power hungry. No Intel products are worth buying today and that won't change until late 2026.

Halo is amazing and like @TESKATLIPOKA is saying AMD needs to make more of them. Look, AMD has 18 months to capitalise mobile on the high end before Nova Lake arrives

there's lots of preorders around right now for both halo and fire range

Framework Desktop (halo) likely has thousands of preorders occupied until Q3-Q4

lots of upcoming 16'' Tongfang 9955HX3D + 5080 around $3000 as well, there's at least 5 preorder sites right now

availability for Halo Laptops is gonna be tight this year sadly

It needs to support SOCAMM. Hopefully Frameworks offers it and then if they do AMD will have client AI and gaming locked
They tried LPCAMM and failed. Maybe they could lower speed to make it work (7500 might be tough maybe 6400) but do people want that?

Other OEMs know one true thing about gaming laptop, the green sticker. It's funny there's only two OEMs at the initial lunch and some smaller ones afterward with minipc

That's par for the course for AMD laptop CPUs. And now Intel is doing it more often too. See lunar lake and panther lake.

100$/GPU?
That's probably what AMD is asking for N33. For N31XTX, it was probably ~5x that or even more.
Also, what OEM?
AMD mobile GPUs are dead, and desktop "OEM" cards are usually by some AIB.

No offense, but I think you're rather underestimating the average price AMD asked for their GPUs by a factor of at least 3x.

If a GPU costs ~25-30$ to make on N6, AMD will want to ask at least like 100-150$ per chip of AIBs, after all you got years of R&D to make back and want to make a decent profit on top of that.

Most of the sales were 7800XT, and at a 450€ ex VAT ASP there s not much left
once you account the AIB and retailer, eventualy 150-200$ for the GPU alone, and the ones sold to PC OEMs are even cheaper.

At say 200$/GPU 4.4M would be 880M $ for the year, to compare to 2.6 bn $ sales for 2024, and that s without consoles or so given that this was a low point since 2023 sales were 3.6bn.

So we end with the same numbers, JPR numbers account for 1/3 of the actual marketshare.
