This won't solve the energy problem, but consider a modified Hügelkultur. We don't have the space (steep heavily wooded lot), nor do I have the energy to plant a garden, which I regret as that would be a good hedge on what is coming.
I do expect to make many more trips to the farmers market. Local produce will be coming in about the time it starts getting ugly. It will likely cost more (supply/demand) but it will help the local farmers, plus it's a higher quality.
Probably never another new car.Well, I may never buy another car!
I had to wait until after the market closed today before I replied to my own post.We rebalanced the wife's 401k buckets at the same time we did our pre-purchases listed above.
Running the numbers this morning were eye-popping! Reducing the company stock % bucket contribution saved our asses! It was a $20k haircut. She was apoplectic until she saw what the number was if she didn’t cut the percentage.
Two thoughts at play: 1) set a strategy and just stick with it for the long term, and/or 2) if you think things could still get worse, put contributions towards a cash bucket to move into investments later. But if your horizon is long enough, it probably wouldn't make that much of a difference. Her question to me was “Do another rebalance now to go back to higher % in the company stock bucket?”. I answered not no but fuck no! Lol
That's what the parking lot in front of the Khol's at the Kitsap Mall looks like all the time. Heck, you could sell off half of the whole parking lot at this point. Winco took over the Sear's a couple years ago.Had to run some errands this afternoon, including taking something ordered through Amazon to a Kohl's for return (or pay $7 to take it to a UPS store), so fuck Amazon.
Anyway, this required going by the mall, typically a traffic nightmare, then on to Kohl's down the road. Traffic was really light for a sunny Sunday afternoon. The Kohl's parking lot was empty! There were probably no more than 10 cars in front of the store. Going all the way to the back of the store to drop off the Amazon return, there I saw about 3 customers wandering around.
Kohl's appears to be the type of store where people cutting back in discretionary spending would show up first.
I have no comparison at this Kohl's, as I was a Kohl's virgin until yesterday, and it is in part of a center I never find myself. That's what the parking lot in front of the Khol's at the Kitsap Mall looks like all the time.
