In my opinion, being armed or just having guns available in case will provide very little real world security of a political nature in my opinion. What would it take to prevent the government from detaining you? Are you going to open fire on an ice agent that comes to your door? Ordinary Americans in my area are not yet expecting the government is coming to arrest them and I sure as hell am not shooting the next cop who may come to my door. The last time that happened was in the middle of the night many years ago and I opened the door stark naked. The cop was beating on my door and wanted access to my back yard over some drug arrest or so he said. Maybe they thought I was growing pot for some reason. I don’t know and didn’t care. I live in a medium sized village in a rural area and when I bought my house I found a gun locker in a fairly secure part of the house. You'd need two keys to get in it if you were inside the house and if you didn't know where it was there's no way you'd find it. I feel like at that point there's a greater danger of my kids falling down the stairs or running into the patio door without opening it!
Im not trying to convince you to get a gun because I truly believe that a society with very few guns is safer, but you don't live in a society with very few guns. And you seem to have a government thats going to pick on those that can't or won't make a fuss.

Of course, things being what they are, such snug indifference to the threat from police may disappear even in middle class neighborhoods and we will all feel we could be disappeared at a moments notice. Certainly that threat seems to loom larger rather less and less as it should were liberals running the show.
