The judge involved clearly understood the fellow was a citizen when presented with his birth certificate, but had to follow the ICE holding order. ICE agent arrived, reviewed the case, and released him.
I'm sure it was a very unpleasant experience, I'd be mad as a wet hen if it happened to me, but these things do happen. In the end he was unharmed and released.

This started to garner a lot of attention and for other people who get detained unlawfully, which is what happened, ICE is probably not as snappy. The FL law used had been suspended by a federal judge. He should sue the state.

Normally I'd say the use of the "chilling effect" was probably the strongest anti-immigration tool the Trump admin had.

If they really did "talk tough" and carefully vet 100 something legit illegals with a criminal record to deport, they could probably get most of the way to their immigration goals without hurting innocent people. Many would self deport, many more simply wouldn't see the US as the safe harbor that it was and never come in the first place.

But as usual the Trump admin has to take what was a legal policy position and ruin it by being sloppy and playing fast and loose with the execution, a trend with these clowns.

Everyone has worked with *that guy* who is so staggeringly incompetent that people start to wonder if they're doing it in purpose (usually trying to get fired). That's the Trump admin right now.

All though English is the dominate spoken language in the United States, it's not the primary spoken langauge in some communities.
