PC1: My wife's desktop PC which has a GeForce 760 in (outputs: 1x DVI-I, 1x DVI-D, 1x DP, 1x HDMI)
PC2: My wife's work laptop, Intel recent gen (maybe 12/13) iGPU, has 1x HDMI and 1x USB-C
Displays:
Monitor 1: Iiyama XUB2293HS (1x DP, 1x HDMI)
Monitor 2: Iiyama XUB2293HSU (1x DP, 1x HDMI, also USB and audio in jack)
TV (HDMI) - only relevant for PC1 / the desktop PC
Ideally the laptop is going to see three displays (internal screen, plus both monitors)
Ideally the desktop is going to see three displays (both monitors plus TV)
My original plan included a DisplayPort to DVI cable, but it only works with DP as the source and I've confirmed the cable works on a new PC.
Original plan:
Desktop PC:
DP -> Monitor 1 DP
DVI -> Monitor 2 DP
HDMI -> TV
Laptop:
USB-C hub HDMI 1 -> Monitor 1 HDMI
USB-C hub HDMI 2 -> Monitor 2 HDMI
The laptop config appears to work, no surprise there.
With regard to the desktop, I've got this to work:
DP -> Monitor 1 DP
DVI -> DVI to HDMI adapter -> Monitor 2 HDMI
HDMI -> TV
Allegedly HDMI to DP is possible, there's some guy on Amazon selling a HDMI to DP adapter which includes a separate USB cable that has to be plugged into a *mains* power source. To me that sounds like a janky solution and since my first weird adapter trick didn't work, I'm reticent about trying another.
Are DP to HDMI cables generally OK or are they also a bit hit-and-miss?
I was wondering if USB-C to DP works. The USB-C hub I bought for this purpose has a USB-C PD port. Is trying to drive three displays through a single hub pushing my luck?
Is there another solution like a KVM switch that allows two HDMI monitors to be connected and switched from PC1 to PC2? If it also had the option to switch USB connections from one to the other that would be great, as my wife currently has to unplug a USB-B cable and switch it to another one (the other ends being connected to PC1 and 2 respectively), which Isn't Great.
