I know from a colleague wh has DBT1 that you can smell it in a person breath if they have out of control glucose levels. Breath start to smell like ammonia it seems.

I have been near an older diabetic guy whose breath smelt putrid. I wondered what it could be since I know what bad teeth smell like. That explains it.
Than he needs to go to the doctor quickly. When his breath smells like acetone or ammonia and he has proper mouth hygiene, his kidneys are failing to filter the blood properly while his liver is making all these compounds that are poisonous for the rest of the body. And that all started with diabetes. Get him to a doctor if you can.

That was a few years ago. He's retired/living in another country and probably not well these days because he used to share messages on Whatsapp. Not anymore.

I was thinking, if a person has a breath like acetone and has to do an alcohol breathing test from the police. That poor person might end up taken away for high alcohol levels by accident. And since the glucose levels are out of control , a person can be in a serious bad mood and quickly confused. May end up with lots of fines and no driving license anymore.
That is why it is important that doctors check on a regular schedule for diabetes.

I've mentioned my 3 years' experience with T2D (your acronym). I was taking Cordyceps-M to reduce blood sugar and improve lung-function efficiency, then had my blood drawn before visit to my primary physician. I remember saying that the A1C had gone from 6.9 from the reading 4 months previous to 7.9.

I had to be honest with myself and the doctor: it was likely due to my binging on Heath bars, candy orange slices and Milk Duds.

As for the actress. The article in the link states she was 39 years old. Her health insurance at that age was probably as good or better than was mine, but I know my habits at that age regarding regular medical evaluation: I never went to the doctor unless I felt sick, and probably didn't have an annual physical. I was young and fulla beans, and my habits reflected someone who felt young and fulla beans.

I started taking advantage of regular checkups and medical evaluation when I reached Medicare eligibility -- probably around age 63. So what happened to the actress was not likely to happen to me. And -- I was warned: the doctor had told me every year since five years previous that I was pre-diabetic, advising me to lay off the bottled fruit juice with added sugar. When he finally pronounced me diabetic, I began taking Metformin daily. We've doubled my dosage of Metformin after the last A1C test result, but the next visit in July could prove that I should return to the original dosage.

I CAN say THIS! With double the Metformin, I experience noticeably less urinary urgency, and less dehydration.

I have a lemon tree, and harvested all the Eureka lemons recently so I could freeze the juice into ice cubes. I like making lemonade. But lemonade follows the simple recipe of 1:1:4 -- 1 part lemon juice, 1 part sugar (by volume) and 4 parts cold water. So I purchased powdered Aspartame, and the lemonade requires a cup of juice, a sixth of a cup of Aspartame, and 4 cups water.

Very nice. I may be tempted to try my apple pie recipe again with the Granny Smith apples -- but no sugar -- Aspartame instead.

Too bad about Trachtenberg. She might have lived if she'd seen a physician with greater regularity.

Stevia is said to be safer as a sugar substitute but even there I've read mixed studies on it. Some say it's great for intestinal health. Others say it can disturb the gut microbiotic flora balance. No one seems to be sure of anything about metabolism. Some say breakfast is absolutely necessary. Others say that anything before noon is a recipe for lifelong disease. How can we even begin to understand anything when humanity hasn't even figured out the human body properly?

Well, after more web searches, and other than the affect on gut microbes -- I find nothing to make me panic about "Zero-Sugar" drinks. But where I just mentioned in another thread the prospects for different vegetable juices, I can easily moderate my Aspartame intake.

But as for buying the Aspartame powder useful for baking, cooking and lemonade -- I may look at buying Stevia powder. It must come as a powder, because that's how Walt White poisoned his methylamine supplier in "Breaking Bad". Powdered Stevia, infused with Ricin. Poor B**** -- just a fictional character, but she looked great with bare legs and heels.

I've got what they call Type 1 1/2 Diabetes - I produce insulin, but not quite enough. I've been in diabetic ketoacidosis twice and it's unpleasant to say the least. The last time, the ER instantly knew what was going on because they could smell the ketones on my breath as soon as I told them my name. They gave me Mounjaro for it and that stuff is pure magic - if this is what normal people feel like, I understand why they don't understand people who overeat. It's weird not having the constant driving craving for sugar. So much worse than even a bad caffeine addiction.

My next goal is to kick artificial sweeteners, but I can't drink coffee anymore and I'm a hopeless caffeine addict, so that will be rough.

I definitely recommend everyone getting regular A1C and liver checks.
