So my town of less than 7000 is looking to install 75 cameras that can also track license plates around town. Apparently we have bad crime that I haven't heard about. They want to be clear they aren't going to spy on the citizens because they don't have the staff for that. The first phase is installing cameras on roads in and out of town.

Um, the fact they are installing cameras and that they can track license plates is spying. And the fact that they can hire more people (or use AI) to monitor these cameras is dystopian. The police state is here.
Almost guaranteed that is a service that the police department is renting out to a third party company. They use the law and the police department as a proxy to extract money from citizens.

The issue is that people will arm even more than ever... so yeah, it will force to show the army... worsening the situation

Is it just me or mechanical keyboards are like water coooling kits..

They cost a premium over the usual stuff, sound cool.. look cool but are nowhere as reliable as air coolers.

Case in point.. 2 mechanical keyboards both went bad within 6 months.. the latest one bad out out of the box where key did not work.

But I've got membrane keyboards that still work from the late early 2000's with the USB 1.0 ports!

If the damn keys would stay on, I would agree.

Increasingly of the opinion that Starmer is a CIA asset.

Though it's hugely ironic that the US has their mole running the UK at the same time that Putin has his guy running the US.

If the UK could now just get control of the Kremlin, Project Ouroboros would be complete, and the world would be run by a vast, yet bafflingly circular, conspiracy.

[edit] I'm mostly joking, but it is true that the more I learn about Starmer, both in reading about his origins and past history and in discovering his current policy agenda, the more I find I detest the guy.

And it is almost funny that such a cravenly pro-American character gains power just as the US turns against the rest of the world.

I've been using a wireless mechanical keyboard in my living room setup for 8 years.
I just finally swapped out the Rosewill I've been using for my work PC/shitposting after 7 years because the F key started flaking out (and I bought it second-hand on ebay, so not new when I got it).
Are you buying the cheapest gamer-oriented mechanical keyboards on the market or something?

Well definitely not the cheapest:

Logitech G910.. think it was $99.99 on a black friday sale a few years ago.

Steelseries Apex 5.. think I got it for a $79.99 on a sale recently.

I know Logitech just makes shit stuff now as the older stuff would last 5+ years.. sometimes 15, but the new stuff barely lasts just past warrant for me.

But I'm still looking for a good keyboard (doesn't have to be mechanical). Just need it to work and not break.

I'm thinking maybe a membrane keyboard will be just fine!

Something stinks with the story about Noem's stolen purse. How does someone lift her purse at a restaurant in front of her secret service detail? And lets talk about the reported contents of the purse ... $3k in cash, "medication". As for the cash:

“Her entire family was in town including her children and grandchildren – she was using the withdrawal to treat her family to dinner, activities, and Easter gifts,” a DHS spokesperson said.

Yeah, no one pulls that much cash to pay for things like that unless they're financially incompetent.

Why would you even need cash for that? Don't get me wrong, I don't think citizens should have to explain to the govt why they have their own money on them under most circumstances, I just find that when someone offers an explanation that doesn't make sense, it's usually because they're hiding something.

Yeah, it is a bit weird. On the other hand, rich people behave in weird ways. Maybe to her $3000 is just small change, what $3 would be to the rest of us? I wonder how much she thinks a banana would cost?

Well those are just extra campaign contributions, no need for everyone to know where that 3k in cash came from.

It's just typical behavior from a POS liar. If her car was stolen, she would claim she had a Picasso in the trunk or a briefcase with $500k in it to try to get insurance to pay her for the loss.

That's a valid theory. Claim way more was in there for insurance purposes. No way to really disprove it either.
