Decent video on system building in 2025 by Iceberg. The $1k usd system can play quite a bit of free or cheap games at decent performance levels. Why buy overpriced junk for overpriced junk games?
I have an opinion. I know I know, you are all aghast at the very idea I would weigh in on an issue. Especially with an unpopular POV.
This is one of his worst videos. It's based on the highly flawed Steam survey; that alone is reason enough to discard it. Then the whole video is nothing more than the PCMR hivemind advice of playing your backlog, the classics you missed, FTP; many of which run on a potato. This solves nothing as it's not going to help anyone with a GTX or older AMD GPU looking to upgrade. Because settling for an overpriced 4050 being sold as 60 series, is terrible advice. The market has sucked more often since 2017 than not. The memes lamenting how they were told last year to wait for next gen AMD and Nvidia, only to get burned by doing so, are on point.
When your audience is mostly DIY, expect to get a ration of 💩 when you are way off the mark. AM4 is the most popular DIY platform of all time. The 5600/X is the most popular CPU of all time. That should be the basis of the build. Few DIYers are using a 4060 as their primary card either, if they even own one. The 3060 12GB is much more popular in our segment and makes more sense. That he doesn't understand why the 4060 went from first to second spot speaks to how conditioned most are to accept fake news. It was the recurrent massive distortion produced by Chinese gaming centers. It's why the Chinese language jumps by 20%-25% at the same time. Never mind it's opt in, or that millions of WoW, Fortnite, GoG, and some other players don't even have the Steam launcher installed. Let alone respond to the survey.
Prices are not going to get better in any meaningful sense. Everything has gotten more expensive, and fatter margins are fatter.
