I've been using the same metal yellow tube of heatsink compound since way back when I built a system in 1998 or so. However,
I wasn't able to find it the other day, and I have a project coming up with a laptop motherboard where I will need a decent amount for it.

Can anyone recommend a decent tube of heatsink compound that has 2 or 3 ounces in it? Thanks so much!

Pads out of the question? Otherwise PTM 750 ( Someone correct me on the actual name here)

I use Kryosheet and Critical thermal pads, .5-1mm with the TG KS oon both CPU and GPU.

I just need to get off of my butt and spend the time cleaning our place, and I'll probably EVENTUALLY find that 20 year old tube that had 2 ounces or so in it - probably a little less than 1 ounce, now.

I use der8auer paste. Kind of cool to see how much effort he puts into it.

$6 a gram seems like a bargain now.

Why would you want 50g of thermal paste?
Just buy a 2g tube like a normal person!
Because:

1) my last ~2 ounce tube lasted me 25 years and 30+ projects, and cost about 20 bucks. It was only halfway used up, so my cost per project would be about 66 cents each. (half that, if I hadn't misplaced it, and kept using it)

2) It's a metal tube, not plastic, and I believe the compound keeps better that way

3) Because with a larger amount of compound, big projects are possible

4) there is a LOT less waste packaging over the years

Point is that you did lose it. The odds on it getting lost, going off, leaking everywhere, etc, are pretty high over 25 years!
2) It's a metal tube, not plastic, and I believe the compound keeps better that way
Most people don't keep it for 25 years so thats irrelevant!
3) Because with a larger amount of compound, big projects are possible
I mean if you have a big project that needs 50g of paste then fair enough. Are you planning a big project that needs 50g of paste?
4) there is a LOT less waste packaging over the years
I mean buying a small tube of paste when you need it is probably no more waste than buying a big tube then losing it or it going off!

Also modern pastes will out perform stuff from several decades ago thats been sitting in a drawer!

This is the biggest reason, IMO. Technology isn't sitting still, and that includes thermal compound tech.
I mean the difference in cooling between ok paste and really good paste shouldn't be massive but good paste is easier to use and lasts longer before needing to be changed.
Bad paste can be awful though.

Anyone ever made one from micron sized Aluminum Nitride? It has a lot better thermal conductivity than zinc oxide or aluminum oxide, and does not conduct electricity like plain aluminum metal powder would.
