Oh they know about it but only in anecdotal ways. The Drs around here suck, the Hospital got bought out and now sucks even more. Everything in the old hospital now addiction recovery. This is something that the folks in those red states will never know about. Or if they did, they've been mind fucked into believing that it's just the "usual" liberal hoax meant to make them feel bad about themselves. Nothing's going to be believable or make sense to them unless it comes from Trump, their politically corrupted clergy, Hannity and friends and their gerrymandered leaders in the legislature. So sad....sort'a.
I quoted this because the "brainwashing is real" that was my initial reaction.Observing Trump's "popularity", that by itself provides a basis for wider social comment.
It proves that half the public is comfortable with a criminal in high office. 34 counts under Judge Merchan is a formal confirmation of fact, but it's not the trial and conviction that counts exclusively. There was enough evidence in the Georgia case, the Florida case, and the DC case that prosecutors in the three state jurisdictions were confident of a conviction, or the high chances of it. Then there is the New York state tax fraud case -- and the civil trial confirming the guilt as rapist or in sexual assault.
"Great Again" would seem like a pipe dream. There was once a "Greatest Generation", and I really doubt they would have reacted in any way other than revulsion at the thought of putting a crook like Trump in the presidency.
I have an Eisenhower silver dollar that I keep. It's a reminder that there was once a time when leaders had Honor and followed a Code. As Democrats, my family could all say "I like Ike". Ike was so great, that Trump would've needed a fire-ladder just to polish Ike's shoes.
Similarly with the electorate. There is nothing responsible, moral or traditionally American about the Trump Base. Of course, there have always been Americans who were ignorant, stupid, Post-Confederate throw-backs, bigots . . . But, for instance, we can't call Fred Trump Sr. one of the "Greatest Generation". He was a contemporary. But he never picked up a rifle and did military service. He only cheated the US Navy in construction contracts to build barracks during the war.
That entire family is morally and civically defective, as are those who support him or them. That's my judgment in the matter, and I'm not going to overthrow that conviction. There will be no parole, no appeal, no pardon, no commutation.
You don't have to be popular to be president. You just have to be slightly more desirable to a few thousand people in a few swing states. I think Trump still has those people even if his polling numbers are going down.I forgot to mention that Trump's approvals aren't all that great either.
If you look at the chart, he started at 50 on day one, which is remarkably bad for day 1 of any POTUS. Since then, it's declined to 45. I doubt he's much higher than 40 by year's end.
So you think he can just run for a third term? LOL
No, if he subverts the Constitution to that extent, there won't BE an election of 2028.
I assume that the short life expectancies in those 2000 born states at the bottom reflect the lack of education, relative poverty and poor dietary habits. Note that they are all southern states.Read an interesting article this morning.
Study Reveals Stark Differences in Life Expectancy Across U.S. States Over the Past Century
A sweeping new study led by researchers at the Yale School of Public Health reveals striking disparities in life expectancy across U.S. states and the Districtysph.yale.edu

It seems like a compass needle points towards magnetic north, in this case the GQP are loath to find fault with an R POTUS, especially the current one, who venomously attacks any and all who oppose him on anything. R senators will deflect if called upon to ratify a House impeachment. Nothing short of necessity would make that happen. If the republicans in the house ever get their balls back from the bottom drawer of Trumps desk, and it actually got to the Senate, the pressure from the public on their Senators would be like nothing they could ever imagine. The phone lines, email lines, and protests in DC should send a clear message, find him guilty, or spend the rest of your term and life hiding in fear.
He does it because he likes to entertain the idea that he's the favorite of favorites. His vanity knows no bounds. This is why I can't choose among the radio buttons in the questionnaire.
As much as I wish for something to happen, there's no certainty it would. I'm beginning to worry about this "3rd-term" nonsense, even though it's clear that he cannot do it according to the law. But what does he care about the law? what has he ever cared for it?
Yeah
There lots of ways he could still be running the country without technically running for a third term.
He could just switch roles with Vance and runs as VP, but still calls the shots.
Or he could just have someone trusted run, and have himself installed as Co-President like he did for Musk.
Or he could start a war and declare a state of emergency to postpone elections.
This Term has taught that the checks and balances are not strong enough to stop someone willing to break every rule and lie about everything.
If he attempts that it won't go well for him.Yeah, that's what I meant by "there won't be an election." Because he'll cancel it. No, he's not just going to run for a third term. He's going to cause a Constitutional crisis by attempting to stay in office without running.
I don't think he will live long enough to even attempt a third term. The cognitive decline is apparent and runs in his family, so I have heard. If he attempts that it won't go well for him.
We're already in a constitutional crisis. If he attempts to usurp the processes that take place in a general election it won't go well. He won't be able to justify claims concerning stopping the primaries or any other machinations. The courts will rule against him just like they did in 2020. Attempts at enforcement will be resisted. The Republicans in congress will revolt because they'd be creamed in the election if they don't. Do you imagine that Trump will declare any Republicans in congress automatic shoe-ins? You have some imagination.

The courts will be involved. They can find functionaries in contempt and have them incarcerated. A few of those will have people nervous to carry out trump's directives. He can fire and hire but who wants contempt of court on their resumes? Trump will find other snakes to skin. It's his forte. All caps at 2AM, another volley in another alley come the day.Trump's poll #s mean nothing. It's a moral victory (at best) all while EVERYTHING is being torn down to the studs.
Whether he's at 38 or 48 in ~3 weeks when supply chain issues really hit, or in 6 weeks when he's ignored 3 more court decisions, those things are still happening and his polling will have zero to do with stopping any of it.
That's very unlikely to happen as the people doing the incarcerating are part of the executive branch. The courts will be involved. They can find functionaries in contempt and have them incarcerated. Even if they aren't arrested, the arrest warrants can be issued. Not a good thing on your resume. That's very unlikely to happen as the people doing the incarcerating are part of the executive branch.
I do think poll numbers matter as the more unpopular he gets the lower the costs of defying him. I don't think he will stop until he is forced though.

We are still early in the flood or even tsunami of his base losing their jobs, homes, farms, and having their pickup repossessed. You really have to knock these people on their ass to even get their attention, but it's coming. You don't have to be popular to be president. You just have to be slightly more desirable to a few thousand people in a few swing states. I think Trump still has those people even if his polling numbers are going down.
His base won't change until they feel the pain. They firmly believe that everything bad they want to happen to others won't happen to them. They are racist, misogynic cowards that get their cookies off watching other people suffer, ignorant of the fact Trump thinks everyone that isn't worth at least a billion is just trash.Even if they aren't arrested, the arrest warrants can be issued. Not a good thing on your resume.
