The most disturbing/annoying part of that is Lipton, a very senior NYT reporter, apparently does not know what corruption is. You 100% do not need a provable quid pro quo for it to be corruption.

For example I wonder what Lipton's employer would say if he covered Qater as part of his job and he accepted a $400 million jet from them, even if there was no promise of favorable coverage. Actually, I don't. He would be fired.
Meanwhile, AG Pam Bondi was paid over $100k a month to lobby for Qatar and she is now making the decision on the legality of this bribe/corruption.

Dammit, can't find the "Dobbs consequences" thread, so this will have to do.

Now, Trump’s new FDA commissioner, Marty Makary, is under pressure to restrict access to the drug. Pressed by reporters at the Semafor World Economy Summit late last month, Makaray said that he had “no plans” to review the status of mifepristone. But he added a crucial caveat: that he would reconsider the drug’s accessibility if new information emerged about the drug’s safety. “If the data suggests something or tells us that there’s a real signal, we can’t promise that we’re not going to act on that data,” he said.

As if on cue, a conservative thinktank published a new study just days later that purported to find that mifepristone caused serious adverse effects in more than 10% of patients. The study – which contradicts all previous tests of the drug and the resounding consensus of the medical field – was published by the Ethics and Public Policy Center, a rightwing advocacy group that aims to “apply the richness of the Jewish and Christian traditions to contemporary questions of law” and “push back against the extreme progressive agenda while building a consensus for conservatives”.

(I can't quite work out if this supports my distrust of "experts" and uncritical worship of anyone in a white coat who invokes the authority of 'science', or if it implies entirely the opposite position. Either way, not everything that claims that authority merits being taken at face value)

It's only been in use around the globe for decades... but sure, the folks from a right-wing advocacy center have finally come forth with the true data that just happens to support the goals of Project 2025.

Easy question for anyone who's worked a real job in their lives, 'Would you be comfortable discussing this with HR?' If the answer is no, then get fucked, it's corruption.

Doesn't matter what decision she makes. We can call it like we see it. We don't have to treat obvious things like they need special interpretation by lawyers or wizards in robes.

I'm trying to figure out this wonderful trade deal with china - on the surface it sounds like a lot of huffing and puffing and double tracking with returning to the status quo after a wild ride on the stock market but maybe there is something to it - he did get a nice pr out of it after all....

A friend of mine that works for the federal government applied for early retirement. He finally got a response, it was approved, with some specifics to be addressed.
Next day, got an email saying the previous email had been sent in error. They've slashed the departments of people he works with, and he has no idea if he'll make it through the next reduction.

I'm amused at how Trump screwed the pooch and got nothing he thought he would here. Yet his clan are still cheering him like this was 100% Trump. Unless I'm missing a big chunk of this story, Trump made demands, and after over a month of being ignored by China, BOOM he cracks 1st and somehow they view it as a win? And prices are still going to sky rocket.

I hate him so it's hard to be subjective at all, but all I see from this "deal" is he completely and utterly failed. The fact he was able to save face and get a little something out of this doesn't mean he didn't crash and burn. The fact Trump took a deal with China that he never would have offered on his own tells me how shitty of a deal maker he really is. But his base is full of jr high dropouts, so they believe he really stuck it to China here lol. His spin doesn't even have to be good at all, they eat it up. Their low IQ + total optimism when it comes to Trump is a sight to behold.

Can someone here who has more reading on this deal than I have tell me did anything that will be good for America come from this? From the little I read, it's shitty, but slightly less shitty than it was before. I don't see the winning side to less shitty.

"ease of assimilation" into our country shows just how they think only a very specific sector of our country is actually "The US"

These people are ghouls, supported only by ghouls. It only grows more and more until it is stopped. Usually this means violence. At least, that's what history teaches us.

Is that a very old meme?

It's just that the "George Hamilton" reference feels like a real 'blast from the past'.
Though I actually remember that jokey reference from long ago, these days, surely, as the go-to-reference for an orange skin-tone, he's been replaced with... someone else?

are you....familiar with the average age of a Fox news viewer?

The top of the SCROTUS is quite sensitive, careful. It doesn't do well with harsh language. Get this, it's those damn ad homs by mouthy young people that are endangering the rule of law. It's their schools!

No word on the threat or current damage attributed to the fascist convicted felon in the Oval Office ignoring 9-0 decisions. I'm sure you're all quite shocked, as am I.

This is why you don't let insurrectionists get on the ballot you partisan chucklefuck, so go choke on those crocodile tears of yours Roberts. You helped get us here. And all you idiots had to do was point to the 14th and say, 'Sorry. Rools is rools.'

Wow. First it was Rand Paul dissing tariffs, and now Josh Hawley is talking about trying to protect Medicare and telling republicans they need to choose whether they stand for rich businessmen or the little guy.

Yeah it's not the guy who attempted a coup and is openly defying SCOTUS rulings to send people to foreign gulags without due process who is a threat to the rule of law, it's the kids and their damn civics lessons.

This is either all out gaslighting or this guy is utterly clueless. Then again, he did say the president can commit essentially unlimited crimes without consequence so maybe he thinks those things are fine as the Constitution protects the right to render people to gulags without trial.
