I think op just wanted a new guitar and we are his internet justification.

"See? A whole bunch of nerds couldn't figure out what was wrong with that guitar either!"
I wish that were true, but I was upgrading it to make it "mine" and then all hell went crazy.

As for the wires touching on the switch, thats how it was before I took it apart for the new coils, the 2 wires at the ends of the switch were soldered to the 2 end points, so I just soldered it all back the way it was. As for the potentiometers I said screw it and replaced them both, and yet didnt make a diff.

I didnt really want to buy a new guitar, I was very happy with my $40 special, got the action down super low, installed roller trees and saddles, and was going to hook up some really cool see-thru coils, with black strings, looked kick but, till the dead strings did its thing.

Im just gonna put all the stuff into the new guitar, and have to reorder the coils again, for I returned them thinking they were crap, but turns out only crap was my crappy guitar

.009 would be the first thing to go for me
But I'm not a shredder (I use .010). Still need to re-list my 90s MIJ Jackson on craiglist and see if I can get a trade for a 2x12 so I don't have to lug my 4x12 around.

I used to like Dean Markley strings. A quick look at their site says the strings I used aren't made anymore. I used their 11(high E) set. They were unbalanced with ballsy bass on lower 3 strings, which I particularly liked. The third string was wound, and I swapped it out for an unwound third.

edit:
It /might/ be this set...

Packaging is different, and I can't remember the specific gauges on the lower strings. Been too long since I fooled with it.

I've never been too fussy with strings for electric, mostly any nickel in the right gauge will for me. Using D'addario XT right now, sound/play fine and have held up to abuse at gigs. They also sent me a free set of NYXL strings that I haven't gotten around to trying yet. Acoustic, yeah, there I have definite preferences.

Back when I played I tried a set of Fender strings that were objectively terrible. They had bullet ferrules that were supposed to make them hold tune better with a vibrato bar. I literally broke two of them before the strings were even broken in. They were all removed after I broke the second string. Garbage.

I almost bought a set of them, they look cool, but not if they are going to break that quickly. Thanks for the heads up

Out of the 70+ guitars I have owned so far, this was the 1st I didn't have to do pretty much anything to, other than tune it, and set the action the way I like it (very low), I cant find anything bad about it at all and that includes the strings. They are not stiff as fudge, or leaves marks on your fingers as you slide up and down the neck. It literally is the absolutely best guitar I have owned thus far, and best thig about it is I got it on sale for just $98!!!!! Hell even the frets are perfect on it, no snags or sharp ends, or even high frets, freakin amazing this thing is!

They changed the look, for in the pictures on Amazon, and every video of it on YT, shows it saying Fesley everywhere on it, they must of listened for on mine, chilled out and doesn't say Fesley on every spot on it, I couldn't be happier, and kinda happy my $40 FB special broke

I will update once I do some of my mods to it. I would of done them already, but I couldn't cut the strings, of which has to be done to all guitars first thing, but these are really that good that I cant bring myself to cutting them just yet to do my mods, but once they wear out, Ill be replacing them, and putting in some locking tuners, roller trees and saddles. Not going to change the nut just yet either, they say it is a plastic/steel nut, and they even lubed it, so not in a huge rush to install my infinitely adjustable brass nut just yet. But going to put on some coil covers, or trim, or both, the knobs, and the coils, wont look like this at all when I am done with it

It looks like there's a hump in the neck as it approaches the body, is there?

Edit: Also... wow, 70 guitars. That's way more than I've owned in my lifetime.

nope, no hump, and I had that many for I was buying them cheap, and as a hobby would change the strings, lower the action, may or may not put locking tuners, roller trees, roller saddles on if electric. Oil the necks, may polish the frets, then resell for what I had in them, just as a hobby to keep me busy. Ive since had to quit doing it
