Halting Harvard’s Ability to Enroll International Students

The move was a major escalation in the administration’s efforts to pressure the college to fall in line with President Trump’s demands.

If the Supreme Court wants to have any credibility going forward, then they need to immediately:1) take this case up on an emergency basis 2) Rule in one week's time that the order is illegal 3) Rule 9-0 against Trump. If not, they will make themselves irrelevant to our system of government.

The party of limited government strikes again.

Hey Kristi? (The idiot who didn't know what Habeas Corpus is) ... Good luck finding a court that's willing to go along with this latest version of man baby's unconstitutional payback revenge. BTW, your hair extensions look fucking ridiculous, and your face is a warning about plastic surgery and lip fillers.

Literally barring Israelis from attending Harvard to stop anti-Semitism. Republicans are idiots.

This does hit all the MAGA sweet spots:

They hate books, education, and foreigners

Harvard is an amazing target to chose because 1) Death Star sized endowment 2) Able to raise even more money 3) A legal school people have perhaps heard of and has produced a few lawyers of note 4) the sheer number of sitting federal judges who attended said law school (including 4 present supremes).

It's more of a mafia-style thing that is meant to serve as a warning to schools that may be more tuition-dependent (eg, those without billion dollar endowments): "either get in line, or your tuition dollars will dry up as we deny F1 visas".

This will be struck down in record time.
The damage is already being done to American soft power and research. These aren't things that can be fixed by turning the flow of money back on later - people leave research behind, training opportunities dry up and take time to be restarted, and students and researchers just go to other places. And younger people have long memories: I'm sure the foreigners that are being jerked around are going to have good feelings towards the US for decades to come (/s).

This is the biggest issue and it can't be undone. If you were a promising young international student in 2024 in many cases universities in the US would be among your top choices. In 2025 forget the research cancellations (which are horrible), what sane person would want to come here and risk being sent to a gulag without trial?

This will hang over the US for years because even if tomorrow we removed the entire Trump administration the same people would have the same question, which is basically 'sure, you're sane right now but how do I know in four years the same thing won't happen again?' and there's no answer to that.

Not only that, but these young people will become tomorrow's legislators and leaders in their own countries, and they're going to remember this stuff for decades.

America really handed the plane's controls to the insane passenger screaming about elitist pilots flying the plane.

I doubt anyone is going anywhere as it's already been blocked.

The real damage is making the US a less desirable place to go to college long term.
It will also hurt domestic students because foreign tuition dollars are effectively subsidizing domestic students.

More than that, foreign tuition dollars are subsidizing entire towns. There's isolated regions where the downturn of the American education institution will have catastrophic consequences.

Yes. Many universities, particularly land grant ones, are basically like one-industry towns. People that live there that hate students might find that they monkey's pawed their own destruction.

You'd think she would have taken what happened to Kimberly Guilfoyle as a cautionary tale.

It's a pisser. I turn off audio on my laptop and wait for the SKIP to appear at bottom right corner and click that while simultaneously turning audio back on (a button push). Sometimes the ads play with audio disabled and I don't have to press the Audio button. Yeah, until some months ago my adblocker was effective in nixing ads on YT completely but not these days. There may be an effective ad blocker app out there. I'm running AdBlockPlus on Chrome (intend to move back to Firefox one of these days).

America shot itself in the foot when it elected Donald Trump in 2024. It was a disaster calamity as we're finding out daily. I watched a 43 minute video the other day, a remote interview between 2 major climate activists and the central idea presented was that the subtext of what's driving the dissolution of democracy in America is denial of the existential crisis that is global warming.

That and the fact that the US is ruled by billionaire oligarchs. Citizens United must be rejected or we are doomed.

I still don't understand how Republicans can get elected to anything anywhere in America. I figure people who vote for them are our enemy.
