I highly doubt that musk cares about government bloat or any other thing they said was the reason for doge, but I do think he wanted to use his new found power to either stop investigations into his companies or get approvals that would have otherwise been denied or required more of his resources. Does anyone have an article that addressed those points and whether or not he achieved his goals?

Without lidar fsd is a joke

The current release of AP is phenomenal (from having used it), but will forever be hampered by a lack of LIDAR, especially for road debris, potholes, and inclement weather.

If the Cyber Taxi ever rolls out, I'm VERY curious to see how it handles rain, fog, and snow, especially with no steering wheel for manual override.

On every person's car like Musk says? Not anytime soon. On a purpose built fleet with the appropriate technology implemented...you can go ride Waymo today in some cities.

Thanks for the info. I've never heard of Waymo before. It appears that they do crash, but do it less than people. So while I could claim being technically correct, it's splitting a mighty fine hair. FSD works better than human drivers, and that's good enough. I'm thoroughly impressed.

The analogy that I think about is this, if a human driver couldn't drive safely in the current weather conditions then Tesla FSD will not be able to handle it either. I have personally seen FSD reduce my maximum speed under heavy rain conditions on the Freeway but I should have been slowing down anyway.

It cannot happen on Tesla's existing vehicles because it would require retrofitting the processing computers. Plus the camera system can't operate properly in many inclement weather situations. They just started rollout out HW4/AI4 last Christmas & it's still a vision-only system:


If Tesla adopts LIDAR & integrates Grok training, that would make them more competitive. Currently, they are taking the cost-to-market approach by pushing out something that mostly works in many situations, as opposed to a perfect solution:


Solving the problem with vision-only sensors is "technically challenging", according to Ashok. But, he says that it's "more valuable for the world to have a low-cost solution."

I'll trust FSD when they remove the steering wheel and someone insures TSLA for the potential lawsuits... AND it bakes in the oven for a decade after that.

I learned my lesson with my first-year Jeep Renegade lemon back in 2015:

* Never buy first-generation hardware

Meaning:

1. Only buy it if it actually exists today

2. All companies are rushed to ship to meet deadlines & will "fix i later". Wait a few years to get the bugs worked out!

With AI & LIDAR, I think the future is bright for self-driving cars. We kill 30,000+ people on American roads every year. The elderly & handicap people need rides. Busy families need help. There's a lot of fabulous potential out there!

I will stick with stick-shift for now LOL
