Was told on reddit the 100 dollar ones all over amazon are literal garbage

They pointed me to brands like Epson and Benq for quality ones

Not sure how much I should be spending for one,. Gonna use it with my PC and Steam deck for general use and gaming.

Tell me your thoughts on this newly released one that is neither the two mentioned brands but is highly rated.. Is this a safe and future proofed buy? I'm concerned since the 100 dollar supposed trash ones that the redditor mentioned are also highly rated on Amazon

But this...

Or should I wait a bit to get something from Epson or Benq?

Lol yeah a $100 projector is going to be basically ewaste. Expect to pay close or even over a grand for a good projector. Whatever you go with, also make sure it's easy to get bulbs and colour wheels for it. Those are two wear items that need to be replaced after some time so you want to make sure you can still buy those down the line. Have spares on hand too.

I'd probably avoid Amazon for something like a projector since there's going to be so much junk to try to filter through it's just going to be a pain.

Look at a site like Staples or other tech oriented sites, you should find better quality stuff. Upon quick search it seems Epson and Benq are in fact the dominant ones that show up. Oh and NEC is usually pretty good too.

Great now this has be going down the rabbit hole looking at projectors. One of these days I want to make a legit home theatre room, but I don't really have a suitable area in my current house.

The 4k projector has native 1080P resolution, 1000 ANSI brightness, and uses advanced LCD and color reproduction technology, which is at least 95% brighter than other 1080P projectors,

I bought a Sony HW45ES in 2016. Its my 3rd projector, and its by far the best one i've owned.
My first projector was a Mitsubishi DLP which had some serious color-wheel problems after several years.
I had a Benq second, i didnt like it since it was much too bright for my room, and it was too short of a throw for where i had my mounting point. So I didnt keep the Benq long.
The Sony has decent black levels and contrast and the lamps actually do tend to last 5000+ hours.

I would suggest looking into sites like Projector Central, they have a projector database with lots of info: https://www.projectorcentral.com/projectors.cfm
For actual real reviews, Rtings is awesome. They are at: https://www.rtings.com/projector/reviews/best/home-theater

Good luck finding a good and inexpensive projector. I'd hope things have changed for the better as far as value goes in the last 10ish years since i last bought a projector, but I'm skeptical of everything I see on sites like Amazon where companies can buy hundreds or thousands of fake reviews pretty easily.

I have one of the sub-$100 ones, it seems alright for video content at 720P, dunno about gaming. I mostly got it for live performance aspects so video quality wasn't a significant factor. Those reviews on Amazon, of the ones that are real, they are very likely factoring in the cost in their review, not rating it as an objective 5/5 in comparison with better projectors. You'd have to be some kind of fool to think a no-name $100 projector would perform as well as a $500 branded projector.
But if you want to buy your "forever" projector, you probably need to put some money in it. You might also consider why it is you even want a projector, and what the equivalent size would be on the wall to match when you're holding a Steam deck near your head, the throw distance, and how well it's going to work in your apartment (and if that money would be better put towards outstanding debt).

Hey, be nice. It looks like the best proyector that I've ever seen. It has a 1/4" hole at the bottom for mounting on a monopod. It is protable. It is multiple compatible. It's capabilities are astounding--millions of streaming services are possible to view even though only a couple hundred exist! Its 3.9ince size makes it ease on the go (I assume that means it is a laxative too). The best part is the max 5 foot distance from the screen where you can plug in your wired headphones and really get immersed in the 200" image. And its 20000 lumen brightness will put those 2000 lumen Benq projectors to shame.

Wait, you mean all those reviews for this are filled with people that give nothing but 5 stars! I can't believe that...

And I could keep going and going and going.

"People", hahaha. Good joke!
I assume these so called "People" are actually named: deepseek, gpt4, qwen, gemini, claude sonnet, grok, mistril, or llama.
