You would think biotech CEOs might be more outspoken, given the damage being done to their industry, but it seems that people are either keeping quiet because the nail gets the hammer, or their incentives are all fucked up because it's only about quarterly profits.

I've often thought of Tech CEO's as well as a lot of their market is overseas.. I mean no way AMD/ INTEL/ NVidia make majority of their money from the US.. wouldn't it just make more sense to move to say Belgium/ Luxembourg/ Dubai or something?

Moving is difficult because a company isn't just some paper entity. It's made up of knowledgeable people and had capital assets, neither of which are easily moved.

Just look at all the problems Boeing bought themselves when they moved big chunks of production to non-union states, and that was just in country stuff.

Also, Dubai can go fuck right off with their slave labor bullshit.

Sadly it's not Dubai alone that has that thing with labor.. it's all over.. even Europe that uses disposable labor.

I know this because I've seen friends/ acquaintances of my wife who have to be the breadwinner for their family. So they start looking for jobs overseas. Some are in Italy, Germany, Turkey, Egypt, Israel, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Taiwan, Korea, Japan and Dubai.

Not on some green card that can translate into citizenship.. just a basic 2 year work contract that may be renewed but most often isn't.

My sister in law is actually working in Dubai as the salary is much more than she would make in their home country so she willingly does it and hopes she can do it for longer than just 2 years. She did Turkey and Israel before she got Dubai this time.

And if you adjust those for inflation....

$2000 in 1956 is about $23k today.
$20,000 in 1956 is about $236k today.

What's the top marginal federal tax rate today?
37% on earnings above $609,000

Which is the rate of the $10,000 bracket (or about 118k equivalent) in 1956.

I think it is 35% but the problem is today there are so many loopholes and deductions the 'effective' tax rate on the wealthy is much much lower.

Also the focus on income tax rates sort of misses the point too as the truly rich often don't make their money through wages but instead through stock and such.

Paul Krugman pointed out a long time ago that it really isn't about the 99% vs. the 1%, it's the 99.9% vs. the 0.1%. Those are the real oligarchs. Like the 99th percentile for individual (not household) income is like $430k from a quick google. Now obviously anyone making $430k a year is rich and would absolutely allow you to rapidly build wealth that still will never get you to where the oligarchs are in your lifetime.

The point of the pre-Reagan top tax rates was not confiscation, but to encourage spending rather than hoarding wealth.. Virtually every non-investment expenditure was deductible. Including employee wages.

This meant almost no one paid those rates in taxes.

It's no coincidence that employee wages stopped rising with productivity right after the Reagan tax cuts and elimination of deductions.

Capitalism without this becomes a game of monopoly. And we are at end stage monopoly capitalism.

Not just biotech, but business execs generally support GOP trickle-down; since they are the ones giving the golden showers. They may even privately hate a lot of Trump's nonsense, but they shamelessly love his tax policy.

I’m sure they love his tax policy but presumably their compensation is related in some way to the company’s performance and that seems like a problem here in both the short and at least medium term.

Stomach turning stuff. Trump, via Egon, will eclipse his previous 2016-2020 tally of dead people by a healthy margin I'd say. IIRC his inaction and interference during covid was deemed by the GAO as being responsible for ~700k of the 1million+ Americans dead from covid. At this current USAID rate of death he should exceed that number in like 5-6 months.

Looks like hegseth has gone out of his way here to remove Harvey Milk's name from the Navy ship that was named after him.
It is said that is was meant to be intentional during Pride Month.
I hope there's a special place in Hell for this POS.
