That time after the Iraq War started, and it came to be realized the reasons were all lies.

This is a very interesting question in my opinion and I'm having an idea a minute, the last of which, being able to shut off and concentrate of writing this out, is that I am equipoised on the Briggs Myers personality scale between INFP and INFJ tipping into one or the other on time of test. These are the two rarest categories people fall into which right off the bat tells me that everybody else is surely too stupid to answer the questions properly.

I must have been very young when I learned the Jews wanted Jesus dead which doesn't speak to highly of the racial group that on average apparently produces the highest scores in that category.

But the place I have always gone, not so much that I learned that most people are stupid, but rather that most people are insane as a result of paranoid fear, was watching the movie The Day the Earth Stood Still made circa 1950? in a theater as a child. And owning to this thread and thinking about why I thought as I did, was similar to the Jesus thingi. In one case a man brings a gift from God, forgiveness for sin, and the alien in the film brings a gift to humanity from a galactic collective, and both are killed. It struck me how similar people react when told their self hate is the product of believing lies. I'm off now to make an appointment with Freud. The white coats are outside carrying straight jackets marked, "Caution, patient suffering delusions of grandeur"

Did I ever tell you about the mental patient who would sit in the hall fishing in a bucket with a string ties to a broom handle and the doctors would come by and ask did you catch any and he would reply you are the third one today?

Millions of Americans knew the lies were lies before the war started and were in the streets protesting Bush's pending war crimes.

I remember being naive and just putting an American Flag in my window to "support the troops".

That's also why I was so blown away that we re-elected him after everything he said was a lie.. and lets not forget the memo sitting on his desk saying "Bin Laden determined to attack United States" which collected dust.

I was watching this crime doc last night:

Long story short 2 things stick out..

1. The guy killed 3 people including a cop who was trying to help and says to this girl.. "I'm going to kill you if you leave me" but his girlfriend says he's not a bad guy..

umm who's a bad guy then??

2. The same guy at the very end of the video blames Biden for his arrest and wants Trump to come back because.. Trump wants to bring back gas cars.

Thinks he got caught because he had an electric car.. not because he killed a state trooper.

RIP the victims.

Mental health epidemic. There's something in the food or water that's causing this in the US.

Very typical of girls to say this about abusive guys. I guess their minds go back to their tender/intimate moments with the abusive guy and just think that he's momentarily triggered and will be back to normal soon.

I don't want to touch a gun because I know I can do more harm with it than good.

I don't drive because I know I can get myself in a serious accident and so far haven't had a real need to get a license.

Most people I know don't think like this. Everything they look at the pros first and almost never consider the cons or shrug them off until something bad happens and then pretend like life is unfair to them.

Mental illness rates are pretty much the same everywhere. The only difference is, the US has virtually NO mental health system in place.

We've seen a lot of leopard eating faces threads.. but I'm curious as we've all gone through life.. when was the first time we realized that stupid people actually existed? I mean we all know bad people exist (murderers/ rapists/ serial killers/ child abducters/ smugglers)..

But we thought stupid people didn't exist! At least I didn't. Not as a kid anyways.

For me the realization was 1992?? Remember Amy Fischer.. the long island girl who had an affair with an older man named Joey and went to his house and shot his wife?? Then she bragged about it to her friend that she did.. she's enjoying the spotlight and wanted get a Ferrari with all the fame it had brought her. I was very young and thought.. OMG how can someone be that stupid??

My first major time thinking OMG lots of people can be stupid was 2004 election.. how could we elect W. a second time around?? Didn't we learn enough from his first term and he actually got more votes??

How about you all? When did you first realize it??
I held out some hope until the last election, probably. Stupidity abounded on both sides. The Dems for their horrible political acumen and the independents/moderates who believed Trumps load of bull****. and voted for him. The fact that his approval rating has not fallen to 20%, considering what he and Musk are doing, is further proof American voters are a lost cause, and dont overall care for anybody or any repressive policy until it affects them personally. Proof the majority of Americans are morally bankrupt, stupid, or quite possibly both.

As I said in another post, I held out hope until the 2024 results. I thought perhaps 2016 was an aberration (after all Hillary did win the popular vote), and the voters would not make the same mistake twice. Instead, they voted in the same demagogue, but this time with a win in both the popular vote and electoral college.

Maybe it's the ever increasing amount of plastic in our brains.
Donate blood regularly!
I need to get on that myself, I've been ineligible most of my life for various reasons, but I think they've lifted all of those restrictions now.

Even with insurance, navigating what little we do have in place is not a trivial matter. And if you live in the vast wastelands of rural red America? Good luck!

I've never really believed stupid people exist. I think stupidity is, in the vast majority of cases, a strategic choice. People are self-serving and believe what it suits them to believe.

I think that Upton Sinclair quote (which, full disclosure, I had to google to get the exact wording) is absolutely spot-on.

“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.”

Oh stupid exists. Stupid is not the same as a lack of intelligence.

Stupidity is a more dangerous enemy of the good than malice. One may protest against evil; it can be exposed and, if need be, prevented by use of force. Evil always carries within itself the germ of its own subversion in that it leaves behind in human beings at least a sense of unease.

Against stupidity we are defenseless.

Neither protests nor the use of force accomplish anything here; reasons fall on deaf ears; facts that contradict one’s prejudgment simply need not be believed — in such moments the stupid person even becomes critical — and when facts are irrefutable, they are just pushed aside as inconsequential, as incidental. In all this the stupid person, in contrast to the malicious one, is utterly self-satisfied and, being easily irritated, becomes dangerous by going on the attack.

For that reason, greater caution is called for than with a malicious one. Never again will we try to persuade the stupid person with reasons, for it is senseless and dangerous.
- Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Also from the same essay:
If we want to know how to get the better of stupidity, we must seek to understand its nature. This much is certain, that it is in essence not an intellectual defect but a human one. There are human beings who are of remarkably agile intellect yet stupid, and others who are intellectually quite dull yet anything but stupid. .... We note further that people who have isolated themselves from others or who live in solitude manifest this defect less frequently than individuals or groups of people inclined or condemned to sociability. And so it would seem that stupidity is perhaps less a psychological than a sociological problem.

I mean, that's not a stupidity thing, nor is it specific to Americans. It's an abuse thing and it happens all over.

California's 2003 gubernatorial recall election was a clusterfuck of epic proportions.

Millions of Americans knew the lies were lies before the war started and were in the streets protesting Bush's pending war crimes.
In a population of 300M, those loud dissenters in the U.S. were a small minority:

That's because the richest country in history can't afford universal health care, much less mental health. 🤣

Actually we can afford it, we choose not to. That’s just stupidity.
