Which is completely due to the ignorance of the masses who dont realize that you can get 20+ channels of HD content, PBS, local news, and the big 4 broadcast networks for free with a simple outside antenna connected to your TV. Add a no-subscription-required OTA DVR device like Tablo and you can pause, record, and stream to every smart device in your house. Spend about $200-$300 for an initial setup like this and TV is free for the rest of your life.
But no, due to technical ignorance of todays "tech savvy" people, you dont have TV unless you have NFlix, Prime, AppleTV, etc. etc. Pay, pay, pay, every month, for the rest of your life. And, pretty soon, like you said, they will start to shut down terrestrial broadcast towers and that will be the only choice, as if we arent nickel and dime'd enough for everything already as it is.
