My neighbor who has had... some interactions with my female guests is super into his lawn. My property is on the side of a hill, so it's very hard to cut and I barely have a proper lawn. Every once in a while he doesn't like some patch of grass somewhere on a hill and calls the city about it rather than speaking to me. It's fine, a pain to deal with, but it's fine.

I hate lawns and it's my fault for not moving farther out into the woods. I bought before Starlink, so I had to live in a neighborhood to get internet access.

Where do you fall on the lawn scale?

Replace your lawn with a creeping ground cover and never look back.

We have gravel, desert plants, trees, and lots and lots of rocks. Since moving to the desert, my attitude towards lawns has come to match my attitude towards carpeting: a place to grow mold and other unwholesome things.

I don't live in an HOA but upstate NY grass is neon green. I pay someone to mow it every other week and otherwise ignore it.
(this was a cloudy day so the camera futzed with the lighting)

I cut and fertilize and sometimes add more grass seeds. My yard is full of dandelions though, and the amount of chemicals I would need to actually take care of it is more chemicals than I'd like to use. I did like 3 applications of Weed B Gone last year and it didn't even do anything. I avoid doing that early on too as I know the bees tend to rely on dandelions until the better plants are out.

When I mow over the dandelions it's all green from a distance, good enough for me. Thankfully I don't live in a HOA and my city is not super strict about stuff like that. If you don't cut your lawn at all they might give you trouble but they don't give trouble over weeds as far as I know. There's a school yard in front of my house that is also full of weeds so trying to keep up on this side of the street is futile. Most of my neighbours have lot of weeds too except for the ones that get Weed Man. I'm not that into my lawn to pay money for that.

This is before I mowed it the other day:

I've never been a turf guy. I just cut, trim, and blow.

I fucking hate grass. The whole thing's huge waste of time and resources. It also adds noise and air pollution to the deal. I've tried adding clover, but to really do it right, it has to be stripped and tilled, and I don't want the erosion problems, or maybe unforeseen problems abandoning grass all at once. The few hundred $ of clover I spread on top of the grass hasn't really taken.

Not sure what to vote for. It's either the last or second to last. Depends on how you define "problem". Shortening grass is braindead work. It takes no special skill or intelligence. That's both not a problem, and a huge problem.

Oh, and when I see fancy cut yards, I automatically think less of people. That's on par with a car on blocks in the grass, and a fridge and couch on the front porch.

I voted "Cut and fertilize," but I rarely fertilize. I only have turf grass in the back yard. The front is all rocks of one kind or another.
I'll throw a bit of "Weed and Feed" on the grass every couple of years, but that's enough of that shit. Fertilizer makes the grass grow...I already have to mow every two weeks during the summer months. I DO NOT want to have to mow weekly...or more often. When we were in CA, for a couple of years, we had Clark's Pest Control do the weed and feed along with spraying for bugs. (black widows were a big problem) Their fertilizer made the grass a beautiful green...and I had to mow twice weekly to keep it under control. Fuck that. I try to keep it short enough that I can see the dog crap to pick it up...I edge along the fence line.

After we moved from an apartment to a house my wife has totally fallen in love with gardening. The lawn is a nice place for the children to play, and we just bought a robot lawn mower to save time cutting it, as my wife soon has to return to work after maternity leave. I like being in a nice garden with a nice lawn, but I never see myself as a gardening man. I'm very interested in the new grill and robot lawn mower I bought though

I hate lawn. It's a never ending pain in the ass.
The "lawn" at my new house is Bermuda sod thrown down on a very lumpy clay/stone mix. The natural weeds that were growing out of the pits and valleys in the roughly graded trash loosely referred to as dirt are making quite the comeback.
I'm trying to end the weeds with as little chemical intervention as possible, so far the weeds are winning.

Much of my yard is under live oak trees. I work more on keeping up with their leaf drop in mar/apr than on the meager lawn under them.

I'm encouraging moss to take over from the grass. I've been slowly chipping away at the invasive blackberry and English ivy, because the alternative is a yard full of thorny brambles and English ivy trying to kill my trees. I'm going to be collecting some sword fern spores in a few weeks and trying to grow some from that, so I can spread them in spots I've cleared. I like sword ferns.
