desktop is dead
those monstrous gamer craptops
Strix Point and Strix Halo are the real "high end" of mobiles and they are not near-parity
Nope, it's a fact. Go look at the noise levels and battery life in any review of a Range laptop. You're buying a partially 6nm MCM monstrosity with high pj/b interconnects in 2025 for $$$$. Not a mobile part at all. Even if you're tuning it's still a Zen 5 desktop part forced where it hardly belongs.this is the problem and absurdity I see here with many users:
a hardcoded and outdated image of what a "top end laptop" is
basically the image you have in your head does not correspond with reality in 2025
It would be too big to place where I am and I would need an external monitor, external keyboard. Impractical to keep on my lap such a thing. For that purpose, why not build a small form factor PC? For the same price it can be faster and quieter.
It may have been only me but when one says gaming on the couch I had assumed that a television was involved. It would be too big to place where I am and I would need an external monitor, external keyboard. Impractical to keep on my lap such a thing.
TV is not your possession anymore when you get a daughter. It may have been only me but when one says gaming on the couch I had assumed that a television was involved.
Not to mention physical size, weight, and idle thermals of the chassis.Nope, it's a fact. Go look at the noise levels and battery life in any review of a Range laptop.
You keep forgetting the pricing issue. Mobile will never be as economical as desktop.anyway this debate will be 100% over when medusa comes out
About this, I have to contradict you. The problem with laptops is the fact you'll need to change the entire system while DIY users in need can upgrade some parts*. But, if you consider two completely new systems, the prices for laptops are not so different. I.e. for a similar configured desktop from the same reseller, I get 3.15K€ and that's without a Keyboard, a monitor and a mouse and I get also a not 3D version of the Ryzen 9950 while I get a full version of the 5070Ti. Same SSDs and cheapest case, low-mid range Mainboard with a 750W Power supply which is becoming the minimum there. Of course the upgrade path is what does the difference, but then it depends on how much time you plan to keep the PC, and so on.Oh, and the price. Pretty much every single thing about them is counter to the narrative he's been trying to spin here and in his "desktop is dead" thread.
When we have "screen time" TV, tablets and PC is no longer in our possession.(three daughters old enough to use screens)TV is not your possession anymore when you get a daughter.
9070XT performance out of a RDNA3.5+ IP.even macbook air m4 is 1.6kg .... very small differences
still the lightest + fastest is rog halo 13'' at 1.2kg
anyway this debate will be 100% over when medusa comes out
~1kg mobile /w top tier desktop cpu + gpu perf close to 9700XT
9070XT performance out of a RDNA3.5+ IP.
Riiiight, this will totally happen.
We already know that Medusa Point is 3.5+, and 4 in APUs straight up does not exist.it's impossible medusa will still have 3.5 lol that will be suicide
AMD have never debuted new GPU tech in an APU before debuting it in actual discrete GPUs, and they likely never will.RDNA5. we're talking medusa and the biggest halo that will push limits
it's impossible medusa will still have 3.5 lol that will be suicide
9070XT requires 300W of power to reach its performance. Even with 2 shrinks, you are absolutely not getting this level of performance from an SoC that goes up to 120W at most and shares it with the CPU.
there's no way medusa halo will be 3.5...... it's really suicide
RDNA 5 or bust
You're insane.I bet it will be close in margins let's say 10-20% diff for the big halo
also the zen6 3d uplift in fps
You're insane.
let's see about it 🤩
60+ CUs RDNA5 in turbo-3D-APU-MAX will give that
😐lol common sense really. NPU is a stupid gimmick, everyones saying the same even engineers
the biggest medusa halo shouldn't have any NPU tbh, waste of space
