8GB
Horizon Forbidden West 3060 is faster than the 2080 Super despite the former usually competing with the 2070. Also 3060 has a better 1% low than 4060 and 4060Ti 8GB.
Resident Evil Village 3060TI/3070 tanks at 4K and is slower than the 3060/6700XT when ray tracing:
Company Of Heroes 3060 has a higher minimum than the 3070TI:

10GB / 12GB

Reasons why still shipping 8GB since 2014 isn't NV's fault.
  1. It's the player's fault.
  2. It's the reviewer's fault.
  3. It's the developer's fault.
  4. It's AMD's fault.
  5. It's the game's fault.
  6. It's the driver's fault.
  7. It's a system configuration issue.
  8. Wrong settings were tested.
  9. Wrong area was tested.
  10. Wrong games were tested.
  11. 4K is irrelevant.
  12. Texture quality is irrelevant as long as it matches a console's.
  13. Detail levels are irrelevant as long as they match a console's.
  14. There's no reason a game should use more than 8GB, because a random forum user said so.
  15. It's completely acceptable for the more expensive 3070/3070TI/3080 to turn down settings while the cheaper 3060/6700XT has no issue.
  16. It's an anomaly.
  17. It's a console port.
  18. It's a conspiracy against NV.
  19. 8GB cards aren't meant for 4K / 1440p / 1080p / 720p gaming.
  20. It's completely acceptable to disable ray tracing on NV while AMD has no issue.
  21. Polls, hardware market share, and game title count are evidence 8GB is enough, but are totally ignored when they don't suit the ray tracing agenda.
According to some people here, 8GB is neeeevaaaaah NV's fault and objective evidence "doesn't count" because of reasons(tm). If you have others please let me know and I'll add them to the list. Cheers!

In GPU bound games, sure. Spidey games, Cyberpunk, Space Marine 2, MS fight sim, Hogwarts, a little ray tracing, that's when you'll see what a CPU has left in the tank. An average overclocked 8700K vs 5600x ECO +200MHz PBO makes for a fun comparison in those situations. I'll run a search later, someone legit has to have done it.

PCIe speed being important again is the real kicker. Bad enough they overcharge for 8GB; putting it in a older system causing even more performance issues is adding insult to injury.
Yeah using my 6800XT on my 5820K and 7800X3D I got 50% more fps in World of Tanks @ 5120x1440.

@Rigg

Following up our discussion in the RDNA4 thread.

After reading the post by the member you were conversing with at TPU, I used their high settings at 1080 with high ray tracing. I also used FG, which obviously does not improve IQ. So it is certainly not responsible for the drastic difference you are about to see. Homie claimed there are "no borked textures" You can't miss what was never there LOL! 🤣 Here are our respective screenshots in the same part of the bench.

EDIT: I almost nailed where they took the SS. You were right the first time, w1z's testing is poor.

The results in that video are really trying to sell me on a 9060XT 16GB to replace the RTX 3060 Ti.
PCIe 3.0 here. That video is all sorts of uncomfortable.
MLID expectation is that price of the 9060 xt 16gb will gradually decrease. So hold until that

But first some scapegoats (who haven't read this thread) need to buy and exhaust supplies of the 8gb cards.

Well that's swell. Now we are dealing with different levels of texture degradation. Good catch.

As I mentioned before; you can still get a good price for your card. Reinvest in a 16GB and the out of pocket won't be bad at all. $200 give or take $25 is my estimate.

I doubt it.. it's already $100 cheaper than the 5060 Ti 16 GB.
Yeah, that tracks. Even the 2 fan Pulse is $379.99 at Newegg. I did see a PNY 5060ti 16GB for $429.99 the other morning in stock at Best Buy. Other than that it's been slim pickings.

@DAPUNISHER Were you planning on posting your Monster Hunter screenshots over on TPU? I can't recreate them since the benchmark disables the RT option for AMD cards on Linux and I don't currently have a windows install on my gaming rig.

No sir. And I'd expect the backfire effect from the 8GB defense force if I did. The member that posted those SS seems happy with their 4060. Ignorance is bliss, so I'll leave them be.

No worries. I just posted this comparison:

It's not apples to apples (because I can't enable RT) but i think it's pretty clear the high textures look considerably worse on his setup than mine. The blurriness seen in his video and screenshots appears to be from nerfed textures.

Good news everybody, its "playable"! On a 4790k with 2060Super. FSR turned on, RT low, textures at high. 1% low seemed to hover around 50-55fps during the run. It uh, looked kinda blurry. To be kind. Not bad for way under spec cpu (min is 3600x or 10400). Dang shaders took 10+ minutes to load. Est. Vram usage is 4.66GB out of 7.82 avail.

If you're bored is there any chance you could try and grab some screenshots like mine above with the same settings I used? I started with the ultra preset and turned off upscaling, RT, and set textures to high. I realize this will probably be a slide show on your system, but I'm interested to see what the textures look like if you don't mind taking the time to do it.

DLSS instead of FSR and thus no frame gen available. Lows hit 18-20fps that I saw during the run, though I was afk for the first minute or so. Much of the run the low was 28-35fps. Note that the benchmark says this is "Good" vs playable for fsr + frame gen. There was less pixelization and blurriness at least.

You're in luck, I already have a couple of shots from the FSR run I can post. One is at a similar point.

Would have been good to see how much vram you guys are using on those runs.

@Rigg - His video looks blurry too. He has no idea what it can look like...
