I know a few Pentagon folks who went out to the Mall earlier in the day and to a T they all said it was hot, humid, and uncertain whether it would storm later so they all skipped the parade. They said the original events planned by the Army were great—lots of cool demos and army history on display. At least one guy said there were palpable “stolen valor” vibes coming off the White House essentially co-opting this event for their parade. I wonder how many military folks think the same way.

Let's hope the majority of military think this. Has the orange monkey purged enough general yet to only leave butt kissers? We had the West Point grads while respect the office of the president, they protested the current occupant by refusing to shake his hand during the ceremony. On a different board, someone commented, isn't it customary for soldiers to look toward the commander in chief when they pass by him? If this is the case, good sign the average soldier is showing their displeasure. Well not the hand picked ones to sit behind him during that rally a few days ago and danced along with the idiot

Every time I see the ceremonial marching stuff that various national armies do on special occasions (North Koreans, Russians, Greeks...), I'm reminded of John Cleese and The Ministry Of Silly Walks. I'm sure there's a valid reason for it - disclipline, confidence, etc - but it just asks to be set to inappropriate music on Youtube.

I uploaded this video to youtube as a convenience to show in forums. Youtube removed it and sent me a nastygram, cause nazis  That was one of the major events that caused me to quit google. I don't have time for the stupid. Ironically, I did just find it on youtube, but fuck 'em. I endorse and support archive.org. They're a treasure. Youtube is a cancer.

Thank god he didn't start talking about the election being stolen and the evil liberals. I flipped through several news channels to see how they were handling it. Fox Entertainment News covered it like the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. They commented throughout the few minutes I watched. They were slobbering all over themselves gushing with praise.

I would not have trusted their ability to look left while walking forward. Nonzero probability of someone veering and ending up under a tank tread.

It must be tiring carrying the water all the time.
It's a lot easier than pretending an event is something it's not so you have an excuse to be outraged. The only person your fooling is yourself, why bother?
It was the army's birthday long before it was Trumps. I know that because I learned subtraction 60 odd years back and it still works the same today.

I've seen bigger crowds at my daughters Tee Ball games. 45 million down the tubes!

It got so bad that Donnie had to entertain with his signature dance moves...

Gotta love a clown whose only contribution to any thread is about how mean liberals are and never about the subject at hand. You’d think self awareness would kick in after twenty years.
The thing is that’s all he can do. At this point I’m pretty sure he realizes Trump is bad but he can’t admit it because it’s humiliating. So his idea is to become an anti-anti Trump person where he shifts from explicitly defending Trump to attacking others for being too mean to Trump or whatever.

I must have missed the parade they do every year for the army's birthday, must just be a coincidence it was on trump's birthday too.

Oh, yes. If Trump's birthday was in some other month, he would still have spent gazillions of dollars on a military parade today because he has always supported and heaped praise on our military and all they are and all they do. All those he said were "losers" and "suckers" who died or were prisoners of war. All the wounded he wouldn't be seen with because it might reflect on him and nobody wanted to see them anyway. The generals who he said were "stupid" and “a bunch of dopes and babies” and “some of the dumbest people I’ve ever met in my life.” . How the traumatic brain injuries suffered by our military were merely "headaches".

None of us are pretending an event is something it's not. We know what it is and it is NOT a celebration of our Army.

Should have just thrown a big ass party, invite a bunch of bands, give it a music festival vibe and let people just chill the hell out for a few hours.

At least in the navy you learn to march in boot camp and then essentially never do it again. It would have been hilarious to watch the crew of my ship try to march somewhere in formation.
Seems your forgot about that, when you said outside of a few, the military doesn't teach people how to march. Why did we learn to march in boot camp/basic training, sing cadence, etc? I suspect, even in the Navy, you needed to learn teamwork and cordination working with others, for things to run smoothly on a ship, right?

I would think the whole Trump aspect, and his motives for wanting it, was a most likely a hit to moral for most military members, except for the handful of die hard Trumpers.

I don’t think I forgot anything but sure, Navy boot camp teaches marching in a very cursory way. Funny enough I was part of a ‘900’ division and they thought we would be better at marching. We were not.

(I was in marching band in high school so I can march with the best of them)

Watched several videos, looks like a great parade. Wish I could have been there to see it in person.

So what did you think was so great about it?

The squeaky tank

The look on trumps face of dispair

The marching out of step … I have seen 1st graders march out from a fire drill with more rhythm

The massive amount of elbow room from the lack of people

The wait free security lines due to lack of people

But my guess is you are going to give the same response trump gave when he was asked what is his favorite verse from the Bible…. It’s a parade!

Wow, Trump looks so young and vigorous in that film.
