Horizon Forbidden West 3060 is faster than the 2080 Super despite the former usually competing with the 2070. Also 3060 has a better 1% low than 4060 and 4060Ti 8GB.

Resident Evil Village 3060TI/3070 tanks at 4K and is slower than the 3060/6700XT when ray tracing:

Reasons why still shipping 8GB since 2014 isn't NV's fault.

It's the player's fault.
It's the reviewer's fault.
It's the developer's fault.
It's AMD's fault.
It's the game's fault.
It's the driver's fault.
It's a system configuration issue.
Wrong settings were tested.
Wrong area was tested.
Wrong games were tested.
4K is irrelevant.
Texture quality is irrelevant as long as it matches a console's.
Detail levels are irrelevant as long as they match a console's.
There's no reason a game should use more than 8GB, because a random forum user said so.
It's completely acceptable for the more expensive 3070/3070TI/3080 to turn down settings while the cheaper 3060/6700XT has no issue.
It's an anomaly.
It's a console port.
It's a conspiracy against NV.
8GB cards aren't meant for 4K / 1440p / 1080p / 720p gaming.
It's completely acceptable to disable ray tracing on NV while AMD has no issue.
Polls, hardware market share, and game title count are evidence 8GB is enough, but are totally ignored when they don't suit the ray tracing agenda.

According to some people here, 8GB is neeeevaaaaah NV's fault and objective evidence "doesn't count" because of reasons(tm). If you have others please let me know and I'll add them to the list. Cheers!

But they could've given it the performance of a 3060 Ti. Moved the performance up a notch. Don't we deserve that? Don't their loyal gamer fans deserve that gift? Would not have hurt their profits much.

Yup, and then 1.5 years later they release a card for $50 more that has 3 times the ram and roughly 70% faster.

Why is anyone surprised that a channel and reviewer with a long history of consumer advocacy is pointing out yet another example of companies behaving badly or releasing products that are traps that will screw unsuspecting consumers?

Most posters here are savvy enough to know better than to buy a card like this or they are fully aware of what they are getting but understand that it is suitable for what they need it for and won't be caught by surprise two years down the road.

However, your average consumer has little understanding of computers even to this day. The see more MHz (or GHz now I suppose) or a bigger number/bar and assume it must be better. They gobble up empty marketing terms they have even less understanding of and are easily roped in to foolish purchasing decisions. Most of them would probably try to download more RAM if they saw an ad for it.

Are 8 GB cards like the 5050, 5060 Ti, 9050, or 9060 XT completely purposeless? No, but they're a bad card for 99% of consumers. The Steves may be a bit hyperbolic by using terms like "waste of sand" but they're competing against complete BS bar graphs and other marketing that's just as bad, so I think that language is warranted. When AMD and Nvidia tone down their own outrageous statements, the tech press can follow suit.

They have been leaning hard on the shoot the messenger fallacy since 50 series released.

For anyone that actually watched the video, Steve was explicit about it not being engagement angry, but genuinely angry and why. He went on about how GN will be fine, plenty of other content for them to make a buck from. His concern is for PC gaming and what Nvidia is doing to it.

Not enough time being spent on just how bad Nvidia drivers are. Jarred mentioned he stopped testing Minecraft because Nvidia still hasn't fixed the drivers months later, and he gets whacky results from their products. I don't usually read Tom's reviews, haven't since the 2000s, but I am curious if he covered those issues in the articles, or we are only finding out now after he retired?

I don't remember him covering this but this was probably one amongst the pile of reasons that made him quit

His tone over period of time seemed to have become grumpier & grumpier. And he is probably relieved that he doesn't have to do such a "thankless" job anymore. The novelty of tech in general & GPUs in particular could have worn out on him

Yeah, it's a very painstaking job that eventually takes its toll on you no matter how much of a hardware enthusiast you are. Scott Wasson of TechReport fame also went through the same burnout and eventually sold his website. I considered him almost on the same level as Anand (his most famous article was "inside the second" where he delved into frametimes. Now gone of course. Wiped by the new website owner).

He and Anand both bailed for corpo jobs. Hardly the same situation. Jarred experienced the opposite; Corpo overlords acquired the biz he worked for and made staying untenable.

I saw PCWorld interviewing customers at the latest Microcenter opening. He was asking which brands they were buying. He asked this one couple, and the girl responded she did not know much. But when we go back to them for the which video card question, she exclaimed NVIDIA! Apple cult status achieved. They will pony up for whatever big green is charging. When they find out they need to swap cards in 2 years? The attitude will be - like my iPhone right?
