Network cable speed measurements are based on 100M max length and a few other details.
Cat5 is 100Mbps
Cat5e is 1000Mbps (ie: 1Gbps)
Cat6 is 10Gbps with a lower max length of 55M, or 1Gbps at 100M
Cat6a is 10Gbps at the full 100M length
So Cat5e is all the 99% need for home networking even...
The feature I use in particular is hiding cruft from the App Drawer.
For the launch screen and the Dock there's a lot of visual customization available, you can modify the grid size & spacing and coloration. Can also modify what icon is used.
I have no idea if the current stock launcher can...
Wuuuh? I pay ~$105 for my annual at Costco and every year a few months before it ends they send me a check for more than that as cash back on purchases. And in spite of buying less and less there over time I have yet to get less back than my annual renewal. It would still be worth it as long...
It is compatible with Paddle controllers (little wheel plus a button) and they even sell a version that comes with a pair of them. I didn't find a source of paddles separately on Amazon tho.
Wah? Blue switches have a mechanical device in the switch that clicks "loud" as you press down, "softly" as you release. There is also the bottom-out thunk of pressing the key cap all the way down which Logitech tries to mitigate by adding rubber o-rings (I think all G710 models have them)...
PBT is a harder plastic that until recently was typically dye-sub printed or laser etched for symbols. Recently there have been sets produced in double-shot (symbol/legend is a separately produced piece that the cap is molded around).
PBT is often done with a mold that produces a thicker...
That's a design choice influenced by the backlighting. The primary symbols in that config will be fully lit and the shifted symbols will be partially lit if at all.
Erg, no!! I'm extremely happy with my 32" deep desk, monitors arm mounted and pushed back as far as they'll go. Lots of desk surface to work on when I'm not on the PC, lots of arm support when I am. Of course a key part of this is having it height adjustable so that it can be just right...
I'd still much prefer HDMI ports w/ HDMI->DVI adapters. I run my monitors via active HDMI cables and some of them have DVI adapters at one or both ends to be able to. The active HDMI cables are super thin and easy to route along the arm-mounts I use and 2-3 cables per monitor takes less space...
What people seem to be missing is that the 120/240/480 sizes are SandForce 2200 drives which VirtualLarry says are crap (and reviews tend to agree).
The 512GB drive that is being praised for not having an SF controller (it has an SMI 2246EN) has little to no reviews as it is brand new.
I was looking at putting a low end NUC in the car running ReadyMedia and Plex on Linux. Kids can watch/listen w/ their tablets... Right now the cheap one is the GB-BXBT-2807 for $100 @NewEgg. :D
So SkyLake details say no LVDS, just eDP unless it's a 3rd party add-on, which I doubt. So my desires are once again screwed by the march of progress. I have yet to find an eDP 15.x" 1920x1200 LCD/LED display. I might have found a CCFL one, but with only 1 source I'm not likely to attempt a...
Hmm... Perhaps gen5 is going to be very slim pickings and they're gunning for SkyLake? Here's an ASRock in LGA 1151 at a tech show... And Skylake's first-release targets look to be the low power chips.
Perhaps we will get lucky? Same small power envelope and more performance is always good to...
There's lots of Thin mini-ITX stuff available, it's just all 8* series chipsets. There's only 1 9* series board I've found and that's from Gigabyte and it's not for sale anywhere. After checking Intel's Ark for low power 5th gen CPUs it's not too much of a surprise as there are only 65 watt...
I'm interested in putting together a portable. All these boards take 19V input which can easily be had out of a laptop power bank. I already use an external KB/Mouse w/ my laptop and I'm not a size/weight weenie so more heft or thickness is no big deal. My biggest issue is that I don't want...
Are there more (new!) boards coming out? The Gigabyte GA-H97TN can't be found for sale and isn't even mentioned on their own Thin Mini-ITX sub-site. All the others that I have found are 8* series chipsets.
If you look into the 8* series boards you'll find both LVDS and eDP and that they...
These do not breach the TSA 160Wh hard limit... in fact they don't even hit the 100Wh soft limit. (Direct link that TSA searches will lead you to). Between 100Wh and 160Wh you need 'Operator approval' so good luck on figuring out what that means, typically in a finished device like these they...
Actually, I'm going to blame the OS this time around because the writing was on the wall for quite some time and they neglected to provide an imlpementation or even future implementation details until it was too late.
You're not comparing 2 SSDs with zero other variables, so it's pretty much invalid. The point of the linked article is that on the same system for typical workloads there is a vanishingly small difference between SSDs that in benchmarks would show vast differences.
