Broadwell-EP multiplier locked or not?

Don't any X99 motherboards support FSB overclocking like in the old days? I was kicking around the idea of getting one of these Xeons too. Is that just not a thing anymore? The multiplier unlocked way of overclocking is much simpler and more straightforward, but why don't the older methods...

I am getting a new/refurb phone tomorrow. What should I get?

That will be a great road trip, New Hampshire to CA? I'm jealous. I would drag out an old flip phone and re-activate it. Or maybe buy the cheapest thing they have. That will get you by until your subsidized upgrade in six months.

*Dead* Evga B-stock Geforce FX 5500 PCI video card (for older systems), $10 shipped

$10 shipped to have a spare card around seems reasonable, but PCI's days are numbered. That site has decent deals on fast cards, too. I bought a GTX 480 for $220. I almost got the GTX 570 for $30 more, but I don't think I'll notice the noise with headphones on anyway. Thanks, OP.

The recommendation is appealing - if people can't tell the difference, what's the point in spending the extra money? Has anyone, or any review site, actually done a (somewhat) thorough double-blind comparison of SSDs?

Buying a refurbed PS3..

Microcenter has refurb'ed 40gb PS3s for 199 plus tax. I bought one and it seems fine to me. Maybe it uses 100W more than a brand new slim, but it will still take 3.2 years playing 40 hours a week @ $0.15 / kw hr to burn the difference.

The plain 212 non-plus model works with AMD 939, but the new model doesn't. The headline had me excited because I can't find a deal on the older, 212 sans "plus". At my local Microcenter they want $40+ tax for it. This is a good deal for a good cooler OP! :thumbsup;

Have a barely used ATI 2900Pro, want to get a Radeon HD 3870

I'd say the 2900 Pro to 3870 will be a noticeable improvement, since the Pro is 5 or 10% slower than a 2900XT, and the XT is pretty consistently 10% slower than the 3870 according to Anand's review. So, you're probably 15% slower than a 3870 with a 2900 Pro. 15% is noticeable without...
