The point being that people speculating on something doesn't make it valueless, as plenty of "value backed" things are not immune to speculation. Bitcoin is not a company, it's backing value is that it is not endlessly inflationary, it's controlled by it's users and holders, not a government...

The value has nothing to do with it. If the contract says X bitcoin, then X bitcoin is due. If the timeline is such that the value drops 8 times or rises 12 times, it would be a pretty long timeline and no one would put 100% payment up front or at the end. In other words, it is safe to assume...

People do get paid in bitcoin, and people sell products and services in bitcoin. Therefore it is "backed" by productive activity as much as any currency. Is there a lot of speculation, FOMO, and kids hoping to get rich? Sure, but those same kids bid up a bunch of companies on Robin Hood...
