Discussion PES | Assessing Power and Performance Efficiency of x86 CPU architectures

Actually it was HP Probook 6465b way back (2013). I sold quite a few of those and installed a second 4GB sodimm (Kingston). Notebook worked well but sometimes it did not wake from sleep. All memorytest etc. passed with flying colors. As soon I put "original" HP instead problems stopped. Of...

Discussion PES | Assessing Power and Performance Efficiency of x86 CPU architectures

It is not always my decision. Customer needs come first (budget+time was critical also). This model comes with one 32GB sodimm. To get dual channel one needs to put one 32GB "original" Lenovo SODIMM > 300€. General/compatible Kingston would be cheap (<100€) but we need time to test those. I have...

Quite interesting result. I was looking at duration times and it seem that 8500G in this case is faster / better in CB23 than 8600G. On the other hand Geekbench is slower. What kind of cooling did you have on this run? My 8600G uses AMD Boxed which comes with it.

Whether to upgrade 6yr old sys. GA-970A-D3 (rev. 3.0)

If PC shuts down (power goes off) then it can be processor overheating. I sold many (>100 pcs) of Gigabyte boards from that era. We have had those motherboard brackets give in. Usually one of those "teeths" has begun giving up and the cap between processor and heatsink has widened resulting...

    Question Zen 4 builders thread

Usually if reboot is "hard" ie. it does not leave any memory dumps it is hardware fault not OS/driver (as OS does not have time to dump memory for diagnostics). You can check that with for example WhoCrashed tool: https://www.resplendence.com/downloads Ram testing is like in networking if...

    Question Zen 4 builders thread

I would test memory first. Memory also can "age". Easiest is Karhu ramtest, but is not free. I believe memory testing while running windows shows errors better than standalone bootable memory test (like Memtest & Memtest86+). I had one EXPO kit which would show errors (in Karhu) while running...

Question Intel to amd = more crashes?

I would first test memory at SPD speed (which seems to be 2133MHz). If it passes then maybe you could try clocking down a bit, say to 3000MHz, or relax settings from CL16 to CL18 etc. (EDIT : added SPD suggestion)

Question Intel to amd = more crashes?

Back to basics 1. test memory at your current settings (in windows) I personally use Karhu Ramtest as it is easy to use (it costs 10€) & it has found mem errors other testing has not revealed. But there are other free utilities. I would test overnight (10-14 hours) just to be sure. Also...

OK, I now see what you mean. Based on his test results on creator workflows 7950X has worse efficiency compared to 13900K. Columns indicate yearly electricity usage running test workflows in KWh. So one could say AMD (7950X) sucks at mixed workload efficiency and Intel (13900K) sucks at...
