This is my first build and OC ever and I'd like to thank Anandtech forums the most. This is the first PC forum I joined and I learned the most here. (it's like I'm accepting an OSCAR lol :brokenheart: ). I really just got lucky.

my opteron 165

2704mzh at STOCK voltage
2835 at 1.47V [1.5V in BIOS] (using this 24/7)

and it seems like the cores are so good it's just a matter of voltage, but I want to stay conservative and stick to 24/7 speed, I don't need a bigger e-penis

both of these pass 8 hour dual prime + multiple torrents running at the same time

specs in sig

1035mzh overclock X 2 cores = 2070mzh OC

The feeling of satisfaction from knowing I am exceeding stock FX65 speeds... is hard to describe.

thats a nice chip, what temps are you getting with your xp120.

i got a 0546spmw, right now i am running my opty undervolted and oced...
2340mhz at 1.3v. havent tried to push it any higher as my temps were around 51 at load on my zalman 7700. i am happy running the opty like this, but i would also like to lower temps before i put my voltage into it.

did you have any problems mounting the xp120, i was thinking of upgrading my cooling to something better, but the 7700 is not doing that bad of a job.

Everything always stays below 50C, even when priming for 8 hours.

Mounting the XP-120 went well, but remember to be as careful as possible. These HSFs put a lot of pressure on the cpu and it can take a lot of force to clamp the HS down.

I'm going to up the voltage as soon as I can get a 3 to 4 pin adapter and run the HSF at full RPM. Right now it's barely spinning.

My voltage is listed. Stock voltage in bios is 1.35 volts I believe.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. There is a CPU Voltage Identification Control (VCORE) that lets you select 1.5 volts (the interval is .025) Also, the BIOS can monitor the setting, it's listed under PC health. I'm not using a percentage multiplier, just set at 100%.

MBM5 shows the voltage at 1.47
CPU-Z shows 1.472

in your bios screen at boot up ..you entered a setting in order to get certain vcore

it says 1.4
vid % 103, 110, 113,123

for my setup...I am using 1.35v * 1.10= 1.485v but the bios reports 1.46v..winxp via speedfan,cpu-z 1.31 reports 1.44v

I am curious as I tried numerous setting to get 1.5v and always got bios vcore of 1.51-1.54v

BTW, it was shown by a person at DFI-Street that the DFI SLI DR overvolts from bios reporting as much as 0.05-0.1v...so becareful how much voltage you give..I think you are very safe right now

Personally after seeing this I have decided not to go above 1.52v in the bios..my chip is not as sweet as yours hit 2610 @1.46 bios but not a lick more ..I may try 2650 again

Congrats

2.83 ghz with 1.5 volts is what my 170 0546XPMW does.

but you have to remember that the dfi boards OVERVOLT by about .07 volts.

so your 1.47 bios is actually around 1.54.

if you have a DMM, you can verify this yourself.

or if you have an Asus board you can try to stick your chip in there and you'll see that your chip won't run stably at that speed.

that's one thing i hate about the DFI board (voltages are wack).

You're using an XP120? I have one of those on my P4 3.06. I'm going to be switching to an AMD system, and getting an opty 165 as well I think. Can I still use the same XP120? do I need a different clamp or something? Know where one can be had?

Also - can someone point me in the direction of a beginners guide to OCing, I dont get all this Vcore talk. I've tried other guides and they've confused me, though I'm no newbie to computers. OP - maybe the guides you looked at, since you were new to it as well?
