1 Moniter on 2 boxes?????

FIRST QUESTION

Ok I am fixing to get my CS server/ Webserver. I want to set it under my desk beside my main comp, and i dont really want another moniter in my room.

Is there any type of box that i can hook the moniter up to and the two computers into another end, and then just turn a switch when i want to switch between comps?

Yes there is but they degrade the signal, just get yourself VNC Viewer and Server,
install the service on the box and then you can view the screen through your computer by logging
on.

Search for VNC viewer in google, the main page will be on top.

did the search and found it, Maybe its just because i got home from work and im tired but i dont understand LOL.

So do i need any hardware?? or is it just software? Also will this work on XP machines. I looked at the page and its just too much text for me to handle right now

What you're looking for is called a KVM switch. It allows you to use one keyboard, monitor, or mouse with multiple computers. Since you're not splitting the video signal, it will not degrade quality. Newegg has a two device one for $20 shipped. look here

The VNC Viewer (client) works well on XP, but if you are trying to view another XP machine it can be a bug if you
are having multiple user sessions going on, on that machine.

You can use a KVM so that both computers will use one monitor, keyboard and mouse. I got one by linksys and notice no degrade in video quality. I got it from amazon for about $65 shipped. Here is a LINKY. This switch is made by linksys and has everything you need with it.

Technically, it will degrade quality, but if you have a decent switch and good cables it won't really be necessary. And 20 bucks is one heck of a low price.

True that, I guess if it's a cheapo switch, it might screw up the signal. For what it's worth. I've used a few switches before and never noticed a difference in video quality.

Yeah, you can still use different kb and mouse. I don't know about that particular switch, though.
