Well, we both finished. Me in 7:16 something and Adam in 7:20 something. It was cold and snowy and rainy and there was a lot of mud. I ran better and felt better this year but since it was so muddy it took a few me a few minutes more to complete. So much for a finish in the 6 hour range. So, 31 miles for me today.

Nice work nonetheless! Was this the first time your son completed the distance? Iirc, last time he had some troubles.

He finished a 50+k earlier this summer on easier trails. But you are right, last year he DNF'd this race so he's had his redemption. Now I'll stop hearing about how he has to beat this course.

I just found out that there were quite a few drops yesterday, one of them an accomplished 100 mile vet. I don't feel quite so badly about my time now.

Hello. Normally I just lurk in ATOT but over the last 2 years I've gained 40 extra pounds (ouch). I sprained my ankle very badly playing soccer a year and a half ago and never got back to any significant exercise after I recovered.

Last week I bought a 30 pound bag of dog food for my puppy and when I lifted it I could not believe I was carrying that much more extra weight around compared to 2 years ago. Unreal. Anyway, I thought I'd start small and take puppy for a little bit longer walk than usual. I ended up going 13.5 km (a little over 8 miles).

It's my first contribution to this tally, but not my last. I returned home and my legs are so sore I can still feel it 2 days later! But I plan to keep at it. It's slightly amusing to me that I am so sore after 13.5 km, since before I bought my car I used to walk to work each day with a friend 4km each way with zero problems. (New home and new job which requires car makes this not possible unfortunately)

Wish me luck

Welcome Cookie. Keep up the exercise and eat sensibly and the pounds will melt away.

My son and I just got done with a pretty fast trail run, especially considering we ran a 50K on extremely muddy trails less than a week ago. 5 miles in 40:12. I'll take it.

Been running 6.25 miles 2x/week for 6 weeks now. I might have had some more mileage in there since my last post, but would rather underestimate. I think next week I'm going to add another 6.25 in. Then in December either add another day, or increase distance on one of the 3. In Jan start actually training for Cleveland marathon in May.

Yeah, about that. There were fast splits and slow splits. For example, on the third lap my son had to shit twice so that slowed us down. And the trail was miserable that morning. It rained for days before the race so the clay was like slippery cement. And then when it was snowing I couldn't see a thing. It was pretty epic, a real trail race.

Good luck in your marathon training DV. After Christmas my boy and I start training for a marathon also. Ours is the Sehgahunda Trail Marathon, first half of May but the date's not been finalized yet AFAIK.

Link to race.

We have opportunities to run fast road races but we like to slog it out on trails. It took me almost 7 hours to do this race last year, I'm shooting for 5:30 this year. Don't laugh too hard at our slow times, these races are not easy and we just do it for fun and exercise. :whiste:

Haven't posted on here in way too long.

3 miles this past weekend, 3.5 miles on Monday, 4.25 miles yesterday. Not quite enough to hit +11, but still + 10.

5 more at dusk tonight. My legs hurt from some new squats I did a few nights ago, but they felt better when I was running.
