8 miles yesterday. Was supposed to ride in a 6 hour mountain bike endurance, but it got postponed due to wet trails.

Isn't mountain biking like trail running - the muddier/wetter the better? Seems like a missed opportunity. :awe:

The race is to be held at a county park and the trails were built and maintained by a group of volunteers. Riding wet trails really tears them up, unlike running. Mind you, I love playing in mud, but tearing up mountain bike trails that a lot of people had put in time and effort is frowned upon.

Good luck in the 50K, Mega! I'm looking to do my first ultra (50K) in June. Should be fun!

Well completely destroyed my old PR for an 8 mile run today in the beautiful 50 degree sunshine. Old PR 1:16:27, New PR 1:04:01. Negative split the last 4 miles of it and even tied my best 5K time the last 3.1 miles(23:10) Felt nice to really get out there and stretch the legs with a warm breeze and no danger of ice. Local half marathon in 3 weeks and really hoping for a day like today so I can be way under 2 hours

21 miles of running for the week ending Saturday. Went out for a 9 or 11 miler on Sunday and ended up running 13.2x. I felt good and figured I might as well do a 'half marathon'. The only other time I ran 13.2 I did it in 1:58:xx, that was almost 2 years ago. This time I did it in 1:46:58, so a solid 11 minutes faster. Unfortunately, the app I use (sports-tracker) lost the accompanying data. Which means I lost the time for each mile, my heart rate, etc... While that totally sucks, at least I know that I averaged a 8:04 MM. I took today off (I try to always take Mondays off), but I'm thinking about running 2 miles tomorrow morning.

Can I ask how many days you guys take off after running a good long distance? I see that Mursilis ran 6/10/11, but I'm not sure I'd want to do that. Can I ask what you guys typically run each day for weeks on end? I like 2 miles Tues-Fri and then doing 'distances' on Sat + Sun, followed by off on Mon. As for my weekends, if I get 9 miles in total, I'm satisfied.

It depends. Distance is a factor, but intensity is a bigger factor. Once you get to the point that you can cover 10 miles comfortably, then distance isn't what's making runs hard, pace is. I generally don't like to take days off, but I'll usually take a day after a hard race effort, but only if it's more than 5 miles. Rarely will I miss more than a day. I recover fairly quickly though, and I've been lucky with injuries - mine have only been minor. Listen to your body - if you're still sore, rest or resume running at an easy pace.

2.4 miles in the rain this morning. My back is making sure I taper. My legs felt great, I wish I could have run longer.

2 miles yesterday. Things were going fine and then it felt like somebody stabbed me in the knee. Very strange. Looks like I'm out of action for awhile.

Thanks. I appreciate hearing what others do. I took Monday off but went back to 2 miles Tues + Weds morning. I went into work @ 4am on Thurs, so I skipped that day also. My average pace was 8:04 over the 13+ miles. I didn't feel that was a 'hard' pace. Last year I managed a 7:05 as my first mile during a 5k. That is tied for my fastest mile (from a decade ago). But, I assume that my 5k pace is certainly off from my longer distance pace (around 8MM).

Thanks again for the information. I'm heading out for a quick 2 miles now...
