Hello everybody, first race of the season is done. 3 of the 4 of us finished. My daughter was a nervous wreck and wound up getting sick at the end of the first 5 mile leg. She was dry heaving and her mother told me she was not sweating. That was bad to hear as it was in the 60s and very humid. She later told her mother that she loves running trails with me but she doesn't want to race in anything longer than 10k. She's a good kid, I'll carry her along on training runs any time she wants to go.
My younger son came in right behind his brother, they were 69 and 70 on the finishers' list. I am super proud of his effort, he went from nothing to 15 mile trail race in less than 6 months.
My eldest's injuries weren't an issue today, he stuck with me for most of the first leg but dropped back a bit to run with an older woman. She is a veteran ultra runner and was completely awestruck by her. He had a great time.
I did pretty well, for me anyways. I was 55th and finished in 2:38. There was a very competitive field this year, I was really impressed by the other runners. I met 3 of them, one of whom will be doing several of the other races I'm doing this year. My one bonehead move: I wore a long sleeve tech shirt thinking it would be chilly for most of the event. WRONG. lol I was sweating heavily before I had run 5K.
All in all it was a great race. The course was different this year: the race directors changed the legs to keep the hardest stuff from last year but added some new hills and mud holes to make it a much more difficult race. Despite that, I had more fun this year and us 3 guys will all be going back in 2011 for another shot at it.
Next up, the Sehgahunda Trail Marathon on May 29th.
Oh and I'll be adding 15 miles for today's fun.
