Today would have been a run day but to keep my legs fresh I did a brisk bike ride instead. Felt weird to not run on a usual day.

The loop we dis wasn't too bad (we did the second leg of the race). There were maybe 2 or 3 slightly muddy spots, but nothing too bad. A fair amount of hills too, but again, nothing that will destroy you. Next week, we are meeting there again to preview another leg of the course (not sure which one) if you want to come. Thursday at Hopkins Point Lodge at 6:00pm.

Today I did 7 miles, 4 of which were barefoot on the soccer fields by my apartment. I was going to do some barefoot strides too afterward, but it was 80 degrees today and the heat drained me of all my energy, plus, I am still feeling the torrid 10-miler I did on Wednesday. But today was my first barefoot run of the year! It always feels so weird to run in shoes again after doing a few miles unshod. 2544

3.1 miles or 5K

Just got done with my very first ever race. My son placed 120th, I came in at 130th. I'm disappointed by the placing, but I'll do better next time. I was a little relaxed about getting around the slower runners who were in front of me, I could have come in 2 minutes quicker if I hadn't been blocked by all the college kids. Next time I'll get to front of the starting pack so I don't have to thread my way through all the dawdlers. Speaking of college kids, the guys and gals on the Hobart College soccer and swimming teams were jack rabbits!

I'll update with my age group ranking when it's posted on the website.

2556 including the one mile warmup.

I used to run school cross country races a long time ago and found the same thing. My first race saw me place very poorly because I was at the back of the pack and had to thread my way up. With each race I got better until I was placing in the single digits. You just gotta get used to the format a bit.

Congrats to you on your first race. There is definitely an art to dodging slower runners without blowing too much energy, but you're right, you should try to start as close to the front as you can. (Pretty soon you'll be fast enough to pull away from slower runners right off the start!)

7 miles today, including 4x500m hill reps (last hill workout before my taper).

Legs are lead right now. This happened before earlier during training but the next week I felt like air. Hopefully this is the case for next weekend
