15 miles last night. Almost healthy. Quads were a bit tight and heavy but they loosened up 30 min in. I actually managed to knock 4 minutes off the time I usually run for that route and I didn't feel like I pushed particularly hard . A bit of rest does wonders.

You're not kidding. My friend went on vacation and literally didn't run for about 2-3 weeks...and knocked off 15 minutes off her marathon PR at Houston. She trained and cross trained like a beast...overtraining which was evident by how well she did with nothing but eating and drinking. Rest/recovery runs are very much overlooked...it's been a difficult pill to swallow not running much the past two months but I've never felt fresher or better on a 20 miler, esp in the rain, 40 degrees, and 20mph winds. What are you running your recovery runs at? I've reluctantly knocked mine down to 10:30-11, which I can feel actually helps quite significantly.

I've been following a higher mileage program, with 8 runs per week: 2 hard sessions, 1 long run, 1 mid week longer run, 1 medium run and 3 recovery runs. The hard/easy philosophy allowed me to do much more volume without getting tired. I didn't even feel overtrained when I picked up that bug/sinus infection over a week ago. (probably should have just been sleeping more)

2-3 weeks off is a lot - I just took four days and honestly it took me 3 runs to actually feel back in it (not leg-heavy). Just 1 day off would have been good if I wasn't sick. Rest is good though, and people recover at different rates.

You probably don't want to know my pace, haha. Maybe 7:15-7:30 on the recovery runs and about 6:40 on the steadier runs :$. It's all about the feel though - whatever pace it takes to flush the soreness out.

What's your goal for the OKC? Hope you stay healthy and strong since you're almost there.

I find this most encouraging On Sunday I'm going to be running a 30k with almost no training for two weeks and I'm a bit concerned about it.

Race? Roads or trails? I have to live vicariously until May 2, I don't have a race until then. But the rest of the year will be busy after that.

Vicariously huh? Yeah, it's out in the mountains, not even on trails. You only know which way to go because for the first half you make sure you're going uphill, and for the second half you make sure you're going downhill

I'm kidding of course It's a relatively tame road race, so long as the weather behaves.

Rocked out a solid tempo tonight. 7 miles at half marathon pace (5:46, 5:55, 6:02, 5:38, 6:13, 6:05, 5:47). Let off a bit too much on miles 5 and 6 but had plenty left for the finish.

12 miles total.

Scorch - good luck on your first day at the store tomorrow! Would love to come buy a pair of shoes from you but it's a bit of a drive .

Easy/hard is great stuff...learned about it in my RRCA class. A lot of useful knowledge, and a lot I don't agree with. You take out of it what you want though!

And yes, 2-3 weeks off is a lot...just went to show how much she overtrained/pushed herself if she was able to do better after time off though!

And wow, still speedy I see lol. What's your fall marathon? There's a huge group of us doing Chicago...the thought of deep dish pizza is a good motivator

Goal for OKC - I'm torn b/t attempting a 8:50 (a 3:50ish) - I know I can finally hit my sub 4 if I tried, barring insane weather like last year, or pacing a buddy. He has some issues running a steady pace, so am working with him in 2 hours and next weekend's long run to hold a nice even steady pace. It's been nice just running for fun my last 2 half marathons - have paced various people and essentially goofed off, but my full marathon curse is eating me and I'm dying to have a good race for once.

I'll be buying my next pair of trail shoes there, before May 29. I have a trail marathon on that day and my Wave Ascends are just about worn out. And I did buy my last pair at his store, the service is great and they have the best selection in our area.

We just did a 6 mile tempo run on our trails. It was great out, weird thing is that there was a carnival concession stand set up at the trail head... Sausages, cheesesteaks, fries, funnel cakes. WTF? I've never seen that there before.

8 miles. Drove out to Mendon Ponds after a long first day at Fleet Feet. That place gets crazy on Saturdays!! Had a headache before the run but felt good during. Took it real easy but still had to climb a few doozies of hills. 80 miles for the week woohoo!!!

15k race this morning. Hilly as FVCK!!!! As soon as I finished, my quads tried to cramp up and give out on me. They still feel like jello. And to make it even worse, the steepest, longest hills were from miles 7 to 9. I ran well though and held off a few guys who tend to beat me from time to time so that's good. Ran 56:13; the winner ran 48 flat!!!! With warmup and cooldown I have around 16 miles for the day.

12 miles today before the rain set in. That's 18 this weekend back-to-back. Within a few months we'll need that up to 40 miles back-to-back.

42k this week. Unfortunately it turns out my ankle wasn't really healed yet and my 30k race today hurt it about as much as the training run 2 weeks ago. I'll be taking at least a week and a half off and not running more than 5k at a time for a week or two after that
