6 on Monday, 6.5 yesterday (both of those were quite fast; sub-6:45 pace somehow, yet still felt awesome), 8.5 today with some barefoot strides after too. So that would be 21 miles?

Ran 10k in under 50 minutes for the first time today! w00t (But to compare to Scorch's 6:45s, I was only doing 8m/mile )

I'll add at the end of the week.

This has been a horrible week for running for me. Work has been ludicrous. But I'm going to do a hilly 8 mile road run today if I have to do it at night in the rain.

Anyone have a race coming up soon?

Well, if you just knocked out 3 you should have no problem getting the other .1. You're gonna do great, just make sure to have fun above all else.

I got 6 miles in on the trail late last evening. My mood was much improved afterwards. I need to run more...

I ran yesterday with one of the guys I work with at Fleet Feet. He's been telling me how he doesn't really run anymore and actually hasn't ran in a few weeks, so he's out of shape, but I needed an easy day so we decided to run together. Well, apparently, his out of shape is the kind of shape I'd like to be in at the end of this season! We ran 7 miles and averaged 6:30 pace, and he was just chatting away the whole time! Meanwhile, I was huffing and puffing and trying not to have a coronary! Turns out he's ran 31:30 for a XC 10K and ran a 2:37 marathon a few years ago. So yeah, he's pretty quick. So that means 3 out of the past 4 days have been sub-6:45 pace. I needed an easy day today. I drove to Mendon Ponds and just jogged around for about an hour. It was a beautiful sunny day and it felt good to run slow on trails. Ended up doing 7.5 miles. I rounded down last time so I will round up to 8, plus the 7 from yesterday, for 15 added to our total.

38 miles since my last post, including a 10k this morning. First race in 7 or 8 years, and first 10k ever. 59:40, breaking my 1 hour goal time.

5.8 + 8.0 + 3.0 + 4.8 + 6.2 + 4.0 + 6.2

Nice! 10k in an hour is a great milestone to hit, particularly if you do your regular running in kms because all the pace-related math lines up really well Of course, if that's your first 10k race, I'm sure you'll soon be going much faster.

I did 10 miles on a brand new (to me) trail right next to my power plant yesterday. It's way more scenic than the trail I normally cruise on and it was a blast. I wore my Ultimate Direction Stinger to get me ready for the trail marathon on the 29th, and I barely felt like I had been running. I hope to say the same after that race.

Good job on the 10k ShockwaveVT. How did the race go?

Good job on the 10k ShockwaveVT. How did the race go?

Started off too fast of course First mile was an ~8:00 split as I spent too long hanging with a friend who wound up finishing #1 F @ 47min. Felt good at the time but I knew I would be paying for it later and tried to backed way off on the pace, miles 2 & 3 were more of my target 9:30 minute pace but still a little fast. Miles 4 & 5 were slow, especially mile 4 it was something like 11 minutes, in was in this stretch that my legs decided they were really not happy about that fast start. At the 4 mile marker I got a mental boost from being more than 1/2 done and got my legs back a little later. I wanted push hard to the finish but didn't want to crank it up too early and crash, so I decided to wait for the 5 mile marker. Unfortunately I missed the marker so at around 52 minutes I just decided to get moving with the expectation I had less than 10 minutes / 1 mile to go. Worked out pretty well, as I finished 20 sec below my goal of 60min. I think I could have easily shaved another minute or two off if I didn't mess around at the start, but I had fun =)

One thing I definitely need to do is more training in the morning. My body is primed to run at 6/7pm not 8am so everything just felt kind of off most of the race.

Sounds like you have enough info to fine tune your performance next time out. Most importantly it sounds like you had fun which IMHO is THE reason for running/racing.

I hate to do the broken record thing, but have you considered trails? The VHTRC is a premier running club and they are all about trails.
