So I upgraded my BIOS on my GA-MA770T-UD3P to F7, and Gigabyte says it supports the 1055, but does not list the 1090. WTF ??

Any advice here ?

A bit off topic but did you flash through windows?

I killed an Nforce 2 board not to long ago trying to do so and I'm pretty sure I'm going to need a bios update for my board to support Thuban. Thing is, I've never attempted a flash any other way but floppy and I don't even have a floppy drive anymore.

I'm dreading a repeat .... any tips?

Yes, I have a floppy, a USB floppy and all, but its so easy in windows using @BIOS.

So the minute newegg has a 1090, I am ready with my VISA.

I just flashed my BIOS this week though Win 7 as they just released a new BIOS early this week. I was a little worried ( keep my fingers crossed ) flashing it though Windows but no problems. It was very easy going though windows took like a minute or two. There also is method of flashing the BIOS from a flash drive (link below) aleast with my MB depending I think on your BIOS.

What is amazing to me is how surprising Thuban seems to be. Thuban was pretty low-key, and I don't think anybody actually expected Thuban to be anything more than just "Deneb with two more cores tacked on". Bulldozer was what everyone was waiting for from AMD, but it seems AMD had enough time to improve Deneb significantly before becoming Thuban. Take into contrast what was a few months ago (Nov-Dec 2009) the expectation that the clockspeeds most likely will be 2.6 or 2.8 or similarly not spectacular and not even a hint of "turbo", with what has been leaked and shared so far. It's not an i7 crusher, but perhaps even the staunchest of AMD critics would at least readily admit that Thuban is (or until it is official, seems) a significant improvement over Deneb.

Indeed, that's what I thought Thuban would be. A lower clocked Deneb, 2 more cores, struggle to get even close to 4GHz but AMD put some secret sauce into this one.

OP what CPU-NB voltage do you need to get to 3GHZ NB? That's nuts, I remember when I had my 955, I could do 2.4ghz NB all day but above would require waaaay too much voltage and stability issues.

1.45v me thinks. I'm getting so many benchmark requests that I don't have time to fine tune my system, lol

So it's 25% slower per clock then a i7?
A 6 core 1055t @ 4.0 = a 4 core i7 920 @ 3.0?

Am I reading this right?

I believe they did, I remember a few weeks ago an article talking about a different metal or material used in these chips. Which is the main reason we are seeing these chips with a TDP of 125W as opposed to 140W like some sites were prediciting. However I can not, for the life of me, find that article. Anyone else rembering reading such an article?

so we should have official reviews from Anandtech and others up in a couple of hours?

Not sure, but the breakdown is as follows depending on the Everest benchmark:

CPU Queen:
Thuban@4.3_: 41,748 (1.07x faster)
i7 965 (3.3)__ : 39,025

CPU PhotoWorxx
Thuban@4.3_: 43,444 (1.11x faster)
i7 965 (3.3)__ : 39,152

CPU ZLib
Thuban@4.3_: 170,119 (1.52x faster)
i7 965 (3.3)__ : 112,167

CPU AES
Thuban@4.3_: 46,072 (1.73x faster)
i7 965 (3.3)__ : 26,620

In some benches (the first two), the gap is smaller. In the last two benches, the gap is bigger. I am not familiar with the different benches in Everest, so I cannot explain the small and big gaps.

Yes, that is what I am expecting at least.

Also in video compression the Thubis has a small advantage clock per clock.

One should be careful with the review. Some synthetic benchs that anand use do not favor amd chips.

Will they have the 1090T on time to test? That's the chip I'm more curious about.

As per richie's benches, I've drawn a graph to represent his numbers, I am somewhat disappointed at my i7 930 purchase

Test setups:
i7 930 --source - http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/cpu_mainboard/intel_core_i7_930_review/4
ASUS Rampage 2 Extreme
6GB Corsair Dominator GT @1333
1000w OCZ PSU
1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3
ASUS HD5870
Noctua NH-D14 with Arctic Cooling MX3
Core i7 930 @ Stock and @ 200x21 for Overclocking

Richie's 1055T Phenom II X6
Phenom II 1055T X6 4GHz / 3GHz 1.52vcore / Scythe Mugen 2 + Gentle Typhoon Push Pull
Gigabyte MA790XT-UD4P / OCZ Gold PC3-8500 @ 1333MHz 6-6-6-17-11 1.7v
SuperTalent UltraDrive ME 64GB SSD / Seagate 1.5TB / 8800GT 512MB
Antec NeoPower HE 550w / Antec 300 / Win 7 HP 64-bit

All scores are "higher is better"

Steady there, cowboy... put the wallet down SLOWLY and back away one step at a time.

Wow, those benchies so far look really promising. Dollar for dollar, I'd take this over the 980X assuming the results are fairly similar for others.

Synthetics are one thing, but for single-threaded / lightly-threaded apps, your i7-930 would no doubt still come ahead.

I would suppose it all boils down to how often you use programs that maximize the use of all available cores.

Why would you be disappointed? The i7-930 is an awesome chip. It just feels good to know that AMD finally has a processor that's pretty much equivalent to the i7-930 now. It took quite some time to release but so far it's a good alternative for a lot of people, especially those with current AM2+/AM3 boards.

I'll be off the next couple of days so I'll try to run some new benchmarks before official reviews come out (they should already be appearing by now).

1035T will be released later, probably about the same time as the 960T.

Then I'll be waiting a bit. Actually, I'll probably wait on a 940T. And some extra funds so the wife doesn't flay me alive.

Very nice results, by the way. 4.3 ghz is pretty tasty. What HSF are you using on this chip again? I saw a listing of your case fans, but not the HSF itself.
