don't flame me because it's tiger direct (ick) or that the mp3 player may not be as good as an ipod or something.

but if anybody is interested, tiger direct have reduced the price of their classic 10gb mp3 player to $99.99

details can be found here

the sound quality is meant to be excellent, as is the battery life, but some people have experienced hardware faults with it, but i guess you get what you pay for. this is certainly the cheapest hard drive based player i can find.

That thing looks like a brick! Hot price though for a 10gb. Any chance of extrating a drive out of this one?

uhh...why would you want to pay $100 for the 10GB drive? Isn't it just a 2.5" drive in a little case?

Not the worst deal in the world. For a 100 bucks, it's not that bad...Title might want to include tiger direct though, as stated above.

I've been looking for a HD-based MP3 player for under $100 and have been seriously considering this one. At this price point, you can easily get rid of it at your favorite auction site with a minimal loss if it sucks too badly. Heck, I was ready to take my chances with TigerDirect (they have had this deal for a while), but shipping and taxes add almost $20 to the price. For $120, I was not in a rush to get it anymore.

The bottom line is: it is the cheapest HD-based MP3 player (and a recorder - check specs) out there, so thank you OP.

wow..guy says not to flame for being TD and people still flame it.
geeziz

anyways.. its not a TD REBATE so its not that big of a deal being from TD
may not be an ipod in size but looks comparable to older players like archos and creative nomads and such
and even the current iriver (though no where near as cool)

How did you miss the Archos 20GB Recorder (USB 2!) for $99/$70 from Amazon? That deal was running for like 2 months! http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.php?catid=18&threadid=277635

As far as I know, that thing is OOS now. It is also not any better in terms of reliability than the Classic one. And it is definitely not lightweight or small either. Plus, there was a rebate to deal with. So, this guy's post about the Classic MP3 does deserve recognition.

LOL!!! That's just great...at least you didn't get the pinK one. Is the iRIVER better than the iPOD regular version?
If so please tell me why because from what I've read the iPOD's better (but I do like the color of the iRIVER better).

I got in on that Archos deal at Amazon, but ended up sending my unit back because of endless problems with it....not being recognized by pc, driver issues, transferring files (after getting it recognized) that were corrupted on the unit...and a few more. I wanted a replacement, but they're out of stock and csr said no info if it will be stocked again, so just got a credit card adjustment. BUT, i think i was in the minority because most people really like it and if it had worked for me i definitely would have kept it. I just breezed over the unit at Tiger and can't comment on it much right now, but i did notice it plays wma files which the Archos doesn't. Other than that i doubt i'd even consider it since it's 10gb and the Archos is 20gb. Robert

edit: read the reviews at Tiger about this. They do NOT sound very good....but i'd check elsewhere for reviews (like i do on most of my purchases) to make your own judgements.

I have a 10GB mp3 player but mine doesn't do .wma format, if it could I could tons more. If this one doesn't have any problems, then it's a nice deal.

Redviffer, which brand is yours: Classic or Archos? Tiger says the Classic one does have WMA playback.

is also not any better in terms of reliability than the Classic one.

I decided to get one because my gf has had an Archos used daily sloshing around in her bag for 18 months now. Works flawlessly. We are thinking of upgrading its disk to one of the new 80GB drives.

I think the main advantage of the Archos over this "Classic" player is USB2 vs USB1. I can't imagine transferring 20GB over USB1!

And of course Archos has the nice Rockbox OS replacement. You know they are adding voice menus to that system now? Those guys are wizards!

I may need a firmware update, mine is the Archos Jukebox Recorder 10.

edit: My firmware is 1.28 but the latest online is 1.27d, so I guess no .wma for me. Oh well, I haven't run out of music yet on this thing, and it's only about 60% filled.
