and has been for weeks, i have one. nifty laptop but the trackpad is meh, not bad, but synaptics makes much better trackpads.

i love the thing, its thin, very light, and i can get 5-6 hours out of it easily with some web browsing and word processing and such. the screen has meh viewing angles, i really like the keyboard, and its quick enough to do all id like

Thats the i3 version, just an FYI. I'm leaning more towards the Toshiba K325 model, but my funds keep getting sunk into the house. Furniture and all that. Might end up just buying a Bobcat based product next year. I'd like the ability to plan some games on it, and the 4225 IGP, while better than the Intel IGP, still lacks. SC2 runs, but not particularly well. I'm curious to see how Civ 5 runs on it too, as its below the minimum specs.

As I just posted in another thread, I just purchased an i3-380UM powered Acer Travelmate 8172T, a close twin to the Acer TimelineX 1830T.

I was comparing it with the Alienware M11x, but the Acer won out on price, size and weight.

The Alienware is actually in a rather large case for the size of the screen (Someone said it was actually capable of holding a 13.3" screen, but Dell opted for the smaller 11.6" screen just to say it was the first 11.6" gaming notebook. Whatever.) and the weight.

I travel a lot, and I want a lightweight machine, and the Alienware was noticeably and considerably heaver than the Acer.

And for some reason, Alienware chose to put only 10/100 ethernet on it, not Gigabit. That, by itself, is a deal breaker. I synch my notebook and desktop computers before/after each trip, and 100 "Fast Ethernet" just doesn't cut it! I did notice that the larger Alienware models do have Gigabit, it's just the 11.6" that doesn't. Go figure.

The Alienware was far sexier, but in the end, the Acer won out.

Maybe you read Anandtech's review of it?

Alienware M11x R2: A Legend Reborn
Let's be honest, though: despite having an 11.6" LCD, the M11x is hardly an 11.6" chassis. The LCD bezel is huge, and Alienware could have easily tweaked the design slightly to get a 13.3" panel in here.

Yeah, that sounds like what I was thinking about when I wrote my post above. It actually didn't seem *that* big (i.e. big enough for a 13.3" screen), but it did seem bigger. In the stores where I saw the M11x, there were no other 11.6" (or 12.1") models to compare it with side by side.

Compare it with a 10" netbook. The Acer 11.6" is about 1" wider, 3/4" deeper and 1/4" thinner than a netbook, and similar weight to a 6-cell netbook.
